We no longer live in the South and moved to a new neighborhood where don't know a ton of people. Were invited to watch game with a family who is friend of daughter but they are big Bama fans. Wear Bama clothes all the time, house is full of elephants. I think they're actually from there so that makes it a little better.

Anyway, even as "adults" I don't see this a good idea at all. I also suspect they are just inviting us to see our reaction. Either way, this is not a good way to make friends long term. Any other team would be fine.

Wife thinks we'll get caught lying about having plans or simply look rude for not going. Still I don't see this as a good thing. Any experiences with a similar situation?

...update...I’m getting blackout at home with a few friends and we declined invite and went with our instincts. Thanks for input

ETA:
I have plenty of interaction with gump and ms gump. Here is the total number of decent sports I have encountered:

0

They are all awful humans. It's hard to believe, but true.

Frick that. I'd end up getting belligerent. Hard pass.

frick 'em. We ridin' this week.

ETA: They are the most smug, spoiled fan base in sports. Some may argue some professional teams are like the Yankees, Cowboys, etc... but no professional fan base matches the intensity that a college fan base brings. I wouldn't do it.

I have received that invitation more than once, and "not fun" would be how I describe it.

Bad winners and worse losers, no win situation buddy. Tell the wife to just decline the invite. Be straight up.

Pass, the first time a nephew or some baw in the natty light throws a shaker in my face the cordial pleasantries would be long gone and it would be awkward as shite.

Similar situation here. I have befriended some gumps in the last couple of years. We decided it’s best to just avoid each other Saturday so we can continue to be friends after this weekend.

It's perfectly ok to tell someone no. I don't know why people have to have an excuse to decline an invitation.

Why would you have Bama fans as friends?

My brother-in-law is a Bama fan. He's not as big a fan as I am of LSU but he watches all of their games.

He's not the type to talk shite and says LSU is his second favorite team. I still don't take calls or read his texts during LSU games, let alone LSU-Bama games. Damn sure wouldn't watch the game with him.

I don't even like watching LSU games with LSU fans though.

I don’t have Bama friends. Nor do I wish to watch anything with a Bama fan.

Just tell them you can't geaux. IF they ask why, tell them it is personal and you'd rather not discuss it.

If they are asking through your daughter just tell her to tell them you can't make it for the coming weekend. maybe some other time.

the only reason they're inviting you is so that they can have the great entertainment of watching you trying to maintain your composure, and be a gracious guest and good sport while being curb stomped by their team, that is the only reason
