I read the whole thread “Let’s talk about Drugs”. I was really surprised at how many people are taking drugs for depression and anxiety.

That thread wasn't about mild anxiety.

Wait. Are you saying you're much happier in your beachfront property in Malibu?
Not Malibu. Hermosa Beach but yes

I found swimming helped me the most.

I know the other thread wasn’t about mild anxiety. The question I am asking is if exercise can limit or erase mild depression or anxiety and prevent it from turning into a clinical condition.

It can definitely help.

I am curious how many people taking antidepressants and anxiolytics actually exercise. Has anyone cured their symptoms from exercise or has it been totally ineffective?
There are extremes in anxiety and depression that must be treated with meds. Could those extreme cases be prevented if exercise or other activities were started earlier and not allowed to fester into a clinical condition?
I work out and hike on a regular basis, but also suffer from pretty awful depression and anxiety. The first time I weaned myself off anxiety meds (dumb idea, don't ever in a million years do that without a doctor) I decided to try to exercise it away. It worked for a couple of weeks, until my body started breaking down because like most people I'm just not built for 2 to 3 hours of real exercise a day.
Exercise can help, but if it is a chemical imbalance issue you're kinda fricked without medication.

I take anxiety/depression meds and workout 6 days a week. I feel much better than I did when I didn’t work out. That said, I still get mild panic attacks and mild depression from time to time, but it’s not nearly as bad.

Nobody is meditating while having a panic attack. Your mind is racing.
The most effective non medication techniques I have found have been what essentially is CBT exercises. But VERY basic CBT as I’ve never seen a therapist. Using meditation to “fight off” an attack sounds impossible. A few things have worked for me.
A. Breathing. 5-6 seconds in, hold for 5-6, exhale 5-6.
B. Wim Hoff breathing. YouTube him (he is VERY hippy dippy and guru like so you’ve been warned). His breathing technique works for me. But you need to be somewhere quiet to do it. And you look crazy if people were to see you. Also, ice baths and cold showers. Cold showers SUCK. But when I get out I feel better.
C. Most YouTube “stop anxiety now” videos will say the same thing in many ways. You have to give in to the anxiety. Feel like you’re going to faint? Tell yourself, “frick you. Do it. Pass out a-hole”. You won’t pass out. Heart is racing? Actually check your pulse and see where it is. It’s probably not that high. Tell yourself “frick it. Beat faster.” Fighting the anxiety sometimes only feeds the cycle.
There are 2 types of people having a panic attack. One hyperventilates and the other barely breathes and become hyper vigilant of any adverse symptom.
This is helpful and I used these techniques to help others, however the underlying issue generating the anxiety is important for many people.
A clue to me about you is with this much anxiety, adrenaline, and with the amount of physical activity and at the same time competence in meditation you are reporting, it is either a biological generated issue or an underlying issue that in its own way is asking for your attention to the issues promoting the anxiety.

I'm 40. Never been depressed. Mom died last year and she was a saint. I learned what depression was. Worked hard but spent all other time alone.
Started grief therapy.
No drugs, just talking to someone.
I can't believe it helped so much.

This Ole Miss-Arkansas game is making me depressed.. Arkansas needs to fire their fat arse coach..
Sorry! I know this isn't the right thread for this.
I take meds for anxiety and I do exercises that I am able to do. Also, I try to get sunlight as much as possible. Having low vitamin D can cause you to feel bad and depression. I take vitamin D as well, but simply getting outside more, especially if you work in an office and don't get outside much, even if it's 10-15 mins more than you do now, can help.

Separation and divorce took a lot of out me. I experienced anxiety and depression like never before. An MD friend prescribed me meds for both. They helped some, but there is no doubt getting back into the gym is what pulled me out of the funk I was in. In about a month I was off meds and never looked back. Maybe the meds helped me get off my arse, but it was only a temporary fix. The gym is what brought me back.

Life always feels rushed. I have a constant sense of “what’s next”. Seldom is a time where I can just enjoy the moment. As cheesy as that sounds. What am I rushing for? I’m not particularly religious but not fully agnostic so I’m not rushing for heaven. Lol.
Only turns off when I go to bed.
A couple beers turns it off too. Which terrifies me, as I know that’s a slippery slope.

I have many girlfriends thar are on antidepressants. I get depressed about the way i look and my weight but I don't think it warrents getting on meds. I do wish there was a pill i could take that would give me energy to go to the gym. Whenever i have enough energy to go to the gym, i feel better about how i look.
As far as anxiety, i do have medicine for that but it's only for when there is no other way. Ex: flying, public speaking, can't turn my brain off at night.
