The top and bottom plate end up making the studs 7'-9" instead of 8'-0".

Pretty sure the pink is retardant. I forget how the last walls studs I got were marked but I'm thinking it was a little green on the ends.

I get the length of them and why you would want them that way. What I don't get is painting the whole stick pink.

BEER how did you attach the blind to the legs? Did you prefab anything, or just build it all onsite?

I want to make one similar to yours for next year, and have been trying to choose the best way to tie everything together.

You may come to regret not putting that on skids and just using a fork lift. I have a bad feeling about what's gonna happen if you lift it from the top.

You're gonna elevate the whole thing 10-12' after it's built?

that's how some places sell them. I've seen them at Lowe's like that for years.

The pink is a branding thing, and helps the lumber yard separate the pre-cut studs from the full size 8 footers

Nothing was prefabbed. First thing we did was built the floor. Then we worked off that. To be honest I can’t remember exactly how it’s attached. We just kind of built as we went. I want to say we stood 2x4’s up in the corners and front and back middle. And then ran 2x4’s around the tops of those to tie them all together.

Built this 4x6 last year. It's plenty big enough for 2-3 people.

Like someone stated. That’s how they are sold at Lowe’s. They’ve got a couple of bundles of studs on the floor next to a couple of bundles of 8’ 2x4s. The studs are $2.50 and 8’ are 3.50. Unless you need 8’ exactly, most people just pick up studs because they are that much cheaper.

Also, on a home build you would waste a lot of time measuring each board when framing if you didn’t have a easy way of differentiating. That’s just the way that lumber supplier does it.

I know being off the ground help with seeing better and not flooding. Are there any other reasons to get it off the ground?

They don’t see you.

I thought that was what the blind was for.

It is. But, they can still see movement. Especially if you have big windows. Being up in the air, just gets you out of their field of vision. Take every advantage that you can.

A lock-on without any camo may be 25-30 feet up so they won't notice you. A box blind doesn't have to be that high up because you are fairly well concealed, but not completely concealed. That's why I try to make sure a deer has his head down when I put my gun out the window/position myself for a shot. Just because you are concealed, doesn't mean your invisible.

Don't get me wrong, a good elevated box stand is mainly so you can see better, but you asked what other reasons there were.

Thanks. Only recently started hunting deer and considering buying a fiberglass blind. Was debating whether to leave it on ground or pick it up.

I would rather rifles be shot at a downward trajectory vs horizontal

I'm just glad you came in and took the heat off me from people wearing me out about over building a stair case.
