The program being put on probation back in the 90s really hurt and put Brady in a tough spot with the loss of scholarships and no hope of going to the tournament. I imagine it was hard to lure kids to LSU where they wouldn't be playing for anything for a few years. Hard to tell if things would have been different if Brady didn't start off here with those restrictions.

Consistent enough? The only thing they have been consistent with in regards to basketball is how consistently terrible they have been.
I was a student the year we went to the final 4. The PMAC was a mad house for most home games.
Consistently field a team that can challenge for the SEC title and it will be again. But Basketball season is late football and all hunting season. You have to give the fans a reason to be there

Because LSU is a football school and UK is a basketball school.
If you want to be a part of a basketball environment that’s like UK’s, I have an easy solution. In fact, they sell sell one way solutions at the Greyhound station all day every day.

LSU fans seemingly only care about football, baseball, and gymnastics
How is UK fanbase doing in those areas??
I can't figure it out either.

Tulane and ull are well above average on that but not lsu's level. If you go to most other states no one gives a damn about college baseball compare almost anyone with lsu for attendance.

The reality of it is UK fans dont give two S***s about baseball and football, THey live breathe and eat basketball. It is a religion to them, Its even more fervant than football is in Louisiana, Alabama and Texas,,, I know hard to believe but I lived there,,as LSU fan, trust me I know, :geauxtigers:

This has to be a troll thread, have you not been on the rant? Clearly you haven't judging by when you joined. This is the most excited i've seen the fanbase for basketball in a long time. Let them get some big wins and it could take off

Well Alabama (Deep South school) ranked #27 out of 351 Division I teams in average attendance for the 2016-2017 season which I think is respectable. Unfortunately, LSU didn't even make the top 60.

Because LSU basketball isn't the winningest program in NCAA history and hasn't been a consistent competitor since the early 90's? The fans will come with a consistently competitive and enjoyable brand of basketball.

I wonder why the fans are so excited?

Actually, most P5 schools have strong baseball fanaticism.

As an LSU fan living in KY I can tell you that their football program is actually doing quite well for the recruiting base. Plus they're splitting recruits with Louisville. Their home games are pretty well attended and the school has invested a lot into improving tailgating around campus. Good tailgating crowds even against mediocre sec east teams. Fans believe the program in the right direction. LSU basketball can reach that if Wade makes improvements and fans think we are on the right track.
Regarding why LSU basketball is not like UK, besides the obvious decades of dominance, rupp is in the heart of downtown Lexington. Tons of bars and restaurants to pregame at before walking over, so never mind the snow outside. Compare that to the pmac actually being on campus. Hard to get liquored up and walk over unless you want to sit in your car in poor weather.

Let's put things in perspective. Our girls are great but there's only 63 Division I women gymnastic teams in the country. It's not as hard to be a national power in a sport with less than 65 competitors. In basketball there's 350 .... it's harder to be a national power in basketball but in my opinion LSU basketball has been a strong competitor and deserve a better fanbase.

In what world have we been a strong competitor? Give it Time. There is a ton of excitement surrounding the new staff and program. Before calling out the fans for the poor attendance let’s let the season play out.
And to compare Alabama’s attendance last year to LSU’s is laughable. Last year Bama was a bubble team that had improved greatly. LSU’s was a complete dumpster fire with the worst coach in division 1.
