If he's really truly excited about going to LSU, then he should. I can't imagine being that happy about something, but being talked out of it by an ignorant high school kid. His schoolmates' opinions won't count for shite in about six months.
Which is why I was shocked when I started hearing him talk less and less about LSU. And it's not just one kid, it's several and also his college counselors are encouraging him to "reach higher" to put it nicely and they really got in his head which is not hard to do ... he's your typical very impressionable 17 year old kid that what's to be accepted by his peers.
I always thought LSU had a good reputation so this was a bit of an eye-opening experience to me.

Well.....the schools he is now considering are much, much better. I love LSU, but I’d send me kid to anyone of those schools over my alma mater in a heartbeat.
I understand where you coming from but I so badly want to see him become a LSU alumnus b/c I feel it's something that will bring us closer together so it's hard for me to let go of my dream.
Besides, it'll give me more of an excuse to make a trip to Baton Rouge lol. I absolutely love Baton Rouge food and just being around fellow LSU Tigers.

I like how you throw this in here when 100% of LA politicians are corrupt no matter the party and about 75% of are stupid too, but go tight ahead and push the narrative.
Now about your nephew, he can stop being a pussy and go where he wants or he can listen to the other little rich shite eaters he goes to school with and go somewhere else. This is coming from a guy that went to a small white elite private school and LSU. The class valedictorian went to Harvard and the two Saluditorians went to UVA and Penn. I have a better job than all 3 with my lowly LSU degree.
Listen, only the Louisiana Republican party think it's a good idea to cut funding to LSU and other state universities ... we did the research. LSU's president has begged them to stop doing so plenty of times b/c it's hindering the university's growth and appeal which hurts everyone in Louisiana.
Read below, I'm not making anything up. I deal with facts.

Tell him to do the honors college if he's concerned about the academics.
We did but he's more concerned with the university's image, prestige, and growth which seems to still be too much in a gray area for him. LSU just experienced a decline in applications again this past year he told me which I can't lie isn't a good sign .... I mean the kids is very bright and is doing his research.

I live in Texas and my nephew was heavily considering LSU until recently. He attends a very elitist and affluent private school where most students matriculate to highly ranked and wealthy private and public colleges. So he's been ridiculed for choosing LSU especially given he's one of the top students in his class. LSU isn't really highly ranked or respected in academia and is actually having financial issues due to Louisiana's Republican controlled state government obsession with cutting funding for public universities in the state.
He always loved visiting LSU's campus, he loves the beautiful women on campus, he loves the LSU Spirit, he loves tailgating on campus, and he loves the ideal of being a LSU Tiger but the approval of his peers are clearly more important and I can't seem to get him to overlook them. And honestly he seems more excited about LSU for everything but the academics which is probably the most important thing. LSU will really get a jewel with this kid but it looks like LSU is almost officially off his list. Any advice?
He's now seriously considering UT Austin, Rice, Duke, Tulane, and University of Virginia.

You have to promote the program. You have to almost give away tickets... and then you have to win to sustain it. Brady and Trent didn't understand the need to promote the program.
In my opinion they do a good enough job of promoting. For example, when LSU had the #1 prep player in the nation with Ben Simmons, advertisements were all over South Louisiana touting that fact. It's just that fans do not show up like they should but it looks like finally the tide is turning.
If LSU is gonna be considered to be one of the best athletic powerhouses in the nation, the fans are gonna have to show up and support basketball which is one of the most popular sports in the world.

Looks like my bitching and complaining about why we can't be more like Kentucky may have worked.
The Alcorn State game was well-attended, the energy in the place was great, the fan section was super fun, and it created an ambiance I know LSU is capable of establishing.
Kudos to the loyal royal purple and gold fans and the LSU athletics staff for the accomplishment. The 2017-2018 season is starting off very promising!

no shite?everyone knows this...that's why it no longer exist here in the USA.but 150-200 yrs. ago, it was a common practice.another fact that is overlooked is that these slaves weren't bribed or tricked into coming here, they were sold by there own...so where is the africa hate?nah...easier to blame the current day white man for everything in history that went wrong.
Slavery is racial oppression and didn't end 150-200 years ago.
1) After slavery, it was common for white mobs of people bitter about the lost to raid black communities killing everyone in sight. For example, goggle the Colfax massacre that happened in Louisiana.
2) For a very long time after slavery, blacks were prevented from owning property, owning a gun, and the right to education.
3) Blacks after the war were treated like trash. In the case of Elizabeth Lawrence, she was an elderly black woman who was lynched by a white mob for scolding white children who threw rocks at her as she was walking home in 1933. And this happened during my grandfather's lifetime (he's still alive). There were thousands of senseless lynchings after slavery to instill fear in blacks and keep them from being empowered to stand up for equality.
4) The Jim Crow era was terrible too. I can speak all day on the horrors of "separate but equal" lies.
I can go on and on about how slavery didn't end, it just evolved. Even now, there's a concerted effort to marginalize and exploit African-Americans by the Republican Party which is overwhelmingly white and male.

or what about how 95% of Confederate soldiers didn’t even own a slave?
Poor whites still benefited from slavery. They were not the bottom of the social order and of course they benefitted from infrastructures and things that resulted from slave labor.

or the part where some slaves were treated so well that they returned back to the plantations they were put on?
The video that I attached addresses this. Also there's something called Willie Lynch syndrome, I suggest you look it up.

or the part where you find out each slave cost around 20 grand in our money today and how they just had to let what they invested in walk away because the North wanted us to pay for 75% of the federal government in a nicer way?
This is not true and no legit civl war historian condones this narrative. It's all lies that were taught to Southerners to endear them more to the cause of the confederacy.

A well researched and hard-hitting video about confederacy romanticism in the South. I already knew most of what was presented based on my own research but was surprised to learn new interesting details. EXCELLENT VIDEO for those who love the truth!

That's exactly what I'm doing. I'm challenging the LSU community to step it up and show more support to change the culture so that it rivals Kentucky and attracts top talent and championships.

My experience with games at the PMAC (circa 2005) was to show up five minutes to tipoff. Very little excitement or fun in that.
That's my point ... LSU basketball culture is very casual and inauthentic generally speaking. I mean UK fans camp out for the best season tickets seats ... you think that has ever happened for LSU basketball.
And people are saying well if LSU starts winning, then support and energy surrounding the program will improve. But why would the top players want to come to LSU when their fans are currently lacking in support and energy compared to a UK, Louisville, etc? And also it worth mentioning that football has had some average seasons these last 10 years but support and the culture has still remained strong and impressive.

As an LSU fan living in KY I can tell you that their football program is actually doing quite well for the recruiting base. Plus they're splitting recruits with Louisville. Their home games are pretty well attended and the school has invested a lot into improving tailgating around campus. Good tailgating crowds even against mediocre sec east teams. Fans believe the program in the right direction. LSU basketball can reach that if Wade makes improvements and fans think we are on the right track.
Regarding why LSU basketball is not like UK, besides the obvious decades of dominance, rupp is in the heart of downtown Lexington. Tons of bars and restaurants to pregame at before walking over, so never mind the snow outside. Compare that to the pmac actually being on campus. Hard to get liquored up and walk over unless you want to sit in your car in poor weather.
I know UK football fanbase is pretty strong and lively, but apparently a lot of LSU people didn't know that.
Maybe it's just me but there are enough bars and restaurants close enough to the PMAC for fans to pre-game and quickly make their way to the game. And I mean I would love to see more tailgating for basketball (especially for Saturday night games) ... which I've seen but not to where I think it should be.

You think fans would care if they weren't a national power?
Let's put things in perspective. Our girls are great but there's only 63 Division I women gymnastic teams in the country. It's not as hard to be a national power in a sport with less than 65 competitors. In basketball there's 350 .... it's harder to be a national power in basketball but in my opinion LSU basketball has been a strong competitor and deserve a better fanbase.

Louisiana is in the deep south, while Kentucky is basically a northern state that borders Ohio. Football is king in Louisiana...always has been and always will be.
Well Alabama (Deep South school) ranked #27 out of 351 Division I teams in average attendance for the 2016-2017 season which I think is respectable. Unfortunately, LSU didn't even make the top 60.

Have to win to have a fanbase like that. Lsu is the only school in the country with a fanbase crazy about baseball like this, most schools forget they even play baseball. Football we are one of if not the most hostile crowds in football. Basketball just hasnt had any consistency. A good team a decade will not bring what you are talking about. Hopefully we are about to start something with will wade
Actually, most P5 schools have strong baseball fanaticism. And in Louisiana, have you noticed ULL and Tulane Baseball culture? If you haven't, they are pretty impressive.
LSU has been consistent enough (in my opinion) for a strong following.

LSU has had pathetic coaching and teams lately in basketball. You ever wonder why UK's football atmosphere is so boring? Because they usually suck and their fans aren't excited.
Btw, when LSU was good for a long stretch under Dale Brown, the Deaf Dome was better than any place out there. And LSU still has 3 of the top 5 largest attended regular season games of all time (and 3 of the biggest crowds ever) in the Dome. When they've been really good, the LSU fans showed big time.
By the way, it's football season and Bama's basketball atmosphere sucks too.
1) When LSU was #1 in the SEC in 2009, the team/coaches still had to beg fans to please "Pack the PMAC"
2) Bama basketball is full of energy and excitement now. They recently had a open practice that was almost full to capacity.
3) LSU fans only show up like they should for the major games and that's always been the case.
4) LSU open practices attendance is extremely low compared to our SEC peers

That's not true ... when LSU was winning games they were plenty of noticeably empty seats in the PMAC and little to no tailgating outside. It always baffled me for a school that's passionate about winning and sports.

I just finished watching clips of Big Blue Madness which is an event introducing the new UK men's basketball team to the fans and it looks like a million dollar rock concert production. The fans were super excited, almost sold out, and it just looks like so much fun.
I hate LSU basketball culture. The passion is lacking from the fans, the fans rarely sell out the arena (even with a good team), and it's just so bland compared to UK, Florida, and even Alabama now. LSU fans seemingly only care about football, baseball, and gymnastics

Yeah I figured some of the really good ones would be 21 and over but hopefully they make an exception. We'll try anyway ... thanks.
