Brady did everything he could to alienate the fanbase. That is why the state of the program is what it is today

Wade will turn it around

And Jones did everything to bring them back. Unfortunately, neither could put together a consistent winning program. That's the ONLY thing that matters

Program wasn't exactly jumping when he took over.

LSU has strung together eight consecutive bad seasons in men's basketball. It's hard to get gung ho about that program.

I blame Misha Mutavich and Roman Rubchinko.

They said the same of Trent Johnson. He had one good season followed by three terrible seasons, which led to the Johnny Jones experiment.

LSU has had pathetic coaching and teams lately in basketball. You ever wonder why UK's football atmosphere is so boring? Because they usually suck and their fans aren't excited.

Btw, when LSU was good for a long stretch under Dale Brown, the Deaf Dome was better than any place out there. And LSU still has 3 of the top 5 largest attended regular season games of all time (and 3 of the biggest crowds ever) in the Dome. When they've been really good, the LSU fans showed big time.

By the way, it's football season and Bama's basketball atmosphere sucks too.

1) When LSU was #1 in the SEC in 2009, the team/coaches still had to beg fans to please "Pack the PMAC"
2) Bama basketball is full of energy and excitement now. They recently had a open practice that was almost full to capacity.
3) LSU fans only show up like they should for the major games and that's always been the case.
4) LSU open practices attendance is extremely low compared to our SEC peers

Think about it like this. Kentucky basketball's popularity on campus there is about proportionate to the popularity of football and baseball combined here. They're elite in that sport and it's their most successful sports program.

I'm not saying basketball couldn't get there because honestly I think there's a lot of people who would become quick fans of a good basketball team around here.

Have to win to have a fanbase like that. Lsu is the only school in the country with a fanbase crazy about baseball like this, most schools forget they even play baseball. Football we are one of if not the most hostile crowds in football. Basketball just hasnt had any consistency. A good team a decade will not bring what you are talking about. Hopefully we are about to start something with will wade

Based upon the Kentucky fans I have encountered the big difference is that our fans actually take a bath everyday.

LSU finished inside the top 40 in attendance that year as an 8 seed in the tournament. And even in the Ben Simmons year, they finished inside the top 40 and had the 3rd biggest increase in attendance in the NCAA.

They had approximately 2000+ fans there. That's a good crowd, but Coleman Coliseum holds 15,000+. Maybe you don't know what "capacity" means. Bama did have pretty good crowds last year (though they won 5x more SEC wins compared to LSU), but they've always seemed to have boring crowds. I don't ever recall anyone talking about Bama's great home court advantage.

This is pretty common in college basketball for most teams outside of the usual elite ones.

As Allen Iverson said, "It's practice, man." Who gives a crap about who shows up for practice? That's boring as hell. Practice is for the team to get better, not to see how many fans show up. Jones sucked out any excitement that there was in the program. Wade will raise the interest level and you will see more fans as they progress.

Actually, most P5 schools have strong baseball fanaticism. And in Louisiana, have you noticed ULL and Tulane Baseball culture? If you haven't, they are pretty impressive.

LSU has been consistent enough (in my opinion) for a strong following.

The younger fans have never had a reason to be endeared to college basketball. I grew up a UNLV fan first and college basketball was my first love. Younger than me has no reason to love LSU basketball sans the Shaq era and the last final four run

Kentucky won under coach(s) Rupp, Pitino, Tubby Smith, and Calipari.

The administration invests in top notch basketball coaches. They care about basketball only. The school has a comparative advantage. They make Xyz widgets only. LSU does well in baseball and football and has won 8 NC since 1991 combined.

Duke isn't winning a NC in football or baseball anytime soon.

Kentucky isn't winning a NC in football or baseball anytime soon.

Kansas isn't going to Omaha or the CFP anytime soon.

Alabama sucks in baseball and will not win a NC in basketball anytime soon.

Don't know if you are old enough to remember, but in the 1980's and early 90's LSU basketball and fan support was terrific. We played Georgetown, UNLV, Duke etc. and competed very well. Can't remember what year or even who we played but one game was in the Super Dome and the crowd was enormous. Dale Brown knew what he was doing and hopefully Mr. Wade does also.
