Parents who dress their kids in long-sleeve swimwear

This is shameful. What are you doing? Put some sunscreen on them and let them play in the water.
I just saw a commercial that reminded me how ridiculous this is. And I saw this all summer, especially at the pool. 90 degrees outside and the parents are dressing their children in hats, long sleeves and shants (or pants), or straight up full-body suits. It's absurd.
I feel like some overbearing parent started this trend and now parents feel that they'll be judged if their kid wanders outside without a full-body shield from the death rays. Got a bunch of 5-10 year olds being treated like vampires.

You don't have kids. We get it.

This topic has to do with my having or not having children. You're on the money as usual.

While I agree with you, some kids do have legit medical needs to wear a shirt with sleeves
When my son was 4, he had a central line in his chest. We would wrap his chest in saran wrap and then cover up with one of those shirts so that other kids wouldn't ask him about it.

I wear long sleeves sometimes when I'm At the beach. I burn easily. I'll probably develop mouth cancer so I don't want skin cancer too. Getting sunburnt just sucks

It comes off as another way that parents are pussifying their children.
It's sunlight. Put on sunscreen.

As someone who has had to have a couple skin biopsies done, I wish I had worn these as a kid.

If my kid sees a surfer and wants to look like him, why not get him the sleeves? If my kid sees his mother in a wet suit during her triathlon and wants to be cool like mom, why not let him wear sleeves while he swims?

Finally, even if you didn't have a kid... why are you so insecure that you concern yourself with a kid's outfit? fricking pedo.

Dude, don't you have anything better to do than question other peoples parenting decisions?
Pick your battles, and this isn't a particularly good one.

err.. this is about sun-protective closing. And it being over-the-top when it comes to parents being overprotective with their kids.
Why don't you take a few minutes to cool down and then come back. It'll help you process things better.

many of us have kids with the extreme case of YT....not as lucky as you with the moorish skin

This is extremely dumb. Long sleeve swimwear is much more effective sun protection, for one, and it doesn't need to be reapplied every couple of hours, for two. Plus maybe that kid thinks he looks cool in a spiderman swimsuit or something.

Read up on childhood sun exposure and risk of skin cancer. The more we learn the more you will see things like this. Protecting your skin from the sun with SPF fabric is a lot more effective than lotion, but parents should be using both.
Post pictures of bike helmets and ask what kind of lame parents are doing that to their poor kids.

number of moles I had when born : probably less than 5 if that
number of moles I had by 10: probably 100
number of moles I have at age 30: probably 200 and my dermatologist loves me
So, yeah, if you got super cracker genes, this isn't a bad idea.

It's hard enough dressing them in the first place and you want parents to apply sunscreen every two hours...
