Who here buys that 90% of Americans would be killed within a year of having no electricity?

Those in a hospital or hose neeeding drugs that can’t be produced I get. But 90% come on man.

The 90% part is bullshite.

Noko busting our grid is 100% possible.

Or at least Homeland is telling Emergency Planners it's possible.

I’m having trouble buying that the North Koreans have a delivery system and a nuke reliable enough to pull off such an attack.

They may launch missiles and attempt to set off bombs to cause the pulse but their track record is spotty at best. And if they try and fail, the return fire from us will likely ensure they don’t get another chance.

You can't EMP the entire U.S., especially North Korea.

An EMP on a major city would have the same effect as a pretty bad natural disaster. And while that city was recovering as electrical components are being restored North Korea is being made of glass.

Nah, Tesla would deliver battery packs to all of the liberal bastions so that would save more than 10%. They better hope he's better at delivering on those than he is with delivering promised vehicle figures though.

Some people can't live of the land. Imagine there are no grocery stores, shortage of gas.

Not buying it. Even if an EMP was successful in knocking out a major portion or all of our electrical grid, many who were raised in South LA and the South in general who hunt/fish etc. will do just fine IMO. Lots of small farmers and people who could easily if required be self sufficient.

Is there even a viable delivery system (non-nuke) for an effective EMP attack?

The key to and effective emp attack, besides the nuke is the hight of the explosion above the US. Hundreds of miles above the US, I think we have a good shot of knocking down a limited number of incoming ICBMs.

Popular Mechanics calls bullshite as well.

The most important part of the article...

quote:

Back to The Hill article, which claims an EMP attack by North Korea would kill "9 of 10 Americans by starvation and societal collapse." The first clue that something is amiss with this claim is that, if you trace the link provided in the article, it cites the words of Congressman Roscoe Bartlett, who describes a novel he had read called One Second After.

Bartlett was so spooked by this novel that after he left Congress he moved into the woods and became a survivalist, where he spends his days "cutting logs, tending gardens and painting walls." And just to be clear, the claim that North Korea could kill 90 percent of the American people was directly pulled from a science fiction novel.

I added the underline and bold emphasis.

Which is it?

They can not lob a missile past Japan?

They can send a nuclear payload into outer fricking space?

Big difference.

Total BS. The 90% number was pulled from a University of Colorado study about the worst-case effects on the power grid in the event of a Carrington level solar storm. EMP and CME are two totally different animals in terms of effects on electrical grids and their components. Read the Lloyds of London report on insurable loss due to solar activity if you really want an eye-opener.
