you can have sex on them if you are careful not to break it or fall off.

but i think a lot of people use it as a place for the remote and putting drinks down as well as an extra dinner table to watch tv with

I do have a central table for drinks in the parlor between 2 couches. I do not have a tv though. It is for formal gatherings to sit and talk/drink.

If you want to watch the stupidity box then I have one in the entertainment room

Grew up with a coffee table in the living room. Had one in our living room until Katrina. Not even sure why we didn't get a new one.

I got one made of distressed wood so I don't feel guilty about distressing it more. I eat meals in front of the TV there, prop my feet on it when using my laptop, etc. It's handy as sh*t.

I don't. I think a coffee table makes the living room look smaller, but do they serve any other purpose other than having a place to put magazines and setting drinks on?

You mean in the parlour? Yes we have a coffee table in the parlour, but no TV. Our parlour barely gets set in.

We just bought a new couch and we now have a big ottoman instead of a coffee table. Still have the end table for a lamp.

I bought a coffee table just to have something to put this on:

Actually, though, I do have one that is a family heirloom. It was hand-made by one of my great-uncles about 70 years ago. Its inlay is polished rocks from the Pacific Northwest, mixed with stones and ash from Mt. St. Helens. He only made two of these so I think it's pretty cool.

I have something that looks kinda like this:

I use it more for a footrest than a table. The end table is where I can set my beer down.

My coffee table's top extends/slides up to double as my dinner table. While a gf/wife would probably think its trashy, I'm single as frick and live in a 1br so its awesome.
