Payton’s ego is big enough that the chance to end the half-century Super Bowl absence for the Jets and be a forever New York sports hero would surely be appealing. He has New York arrogance with a dash of charm. He would fit seamlessly into the New York sports landscape.

A first round pick for a .588 winning % ?

Is that enough compensation?

(I only care about this if there is a New GM in place doing the trade besides Loomis)

Its good for getting out from under that contract but you better have a solid plan for hiring the next coach in place.
Hiring/raiding from the Pats and Ravens would be a good start.

Payton stays if:

-Brees re-signs
-we sign or trade for an established backup ie Kirk Cousins, Sam Bradford, Jimmy G, Alex smith

Payton goes if:

-Brees leaves

At this point Loomis needs to relinquish his GM title. Hire a true personell guy to be GM. If it's Jeff Ireland, fine. But there needs to be some type of hierarchy established.

The Saints really really failed on not landing a QB last year

If they were smart they would send all their 1-3rd round picks to us if they got Payton as the talent evaluator. All they do is drain your salary cap with his picks.

Swap those to a 2018 first and 2018 4th and I'd do it in a heart beat. I doubt they will fire him because of all the dead money. Instead they'll wait until the Jets or Colts cut ties with their coaches.

Is this the same rag that said we should trade Drew Brees to the Jets for only a 3rd round draft pick a year or two ago? So they want Payton and are willing to give up a 4th for next year in the deepest QB draft there has been in a while and a 1st in 2019. Uh no just no.

Sean Payton can barely tolerate criticism or tough questions from local new orleans media guys.

How's he gonna survive New York's media machine?
