How long does Ed O need to meet expectations?

For the record I don't believe for one second this is a rebuilding project.

If our expectations are 3-5 in the SEC at best he'll get there in 2-4 years.

Really ? Can we play at least one game after a loss before we throw in the 'rebuilding' towel ?

2019 should be the year we get back to competing for championships. The depth problem should be solved as the weak 2014 and 2015 classes will he graduated and replaced by hopefully stronger 2018 and 2019 classes. Plus the 2016 and 2017 classes will be JRs abd SRs.

We should also should have a good, experienced QB under center.

If we don't compete for the west in 2019, we might as well find a new coach.

Y’all keep taking stuff to the extremes. It’s almost like you don’t like O and haven’t from the beginning, and want him to fail.

This has always been a rebuild. How are people not seeing that.

Honestly- if this becomes a rebuilding process, cut bait with O now. Either elevate Aranda if you think he will become a good HC, or go get a young HC from somewhere.

By rebuild, I mean start from scratch. You don't take an old coach for what will take years to accomplish, because when you get where you want, he will be on the way out.

We brought in Miles to maintain, and he did. We brought in Orgeron to maintain. If he can't, he must go.

Meh. Maybe it is a rebuild, but if this team doesn't start playing with some passion and discipline, nothing is going to change the perception that O is in over his head.
He will have this year and next to prove that progress is being made. End of story.

So stupid how this suddenly became a rebuilding project. It is not.

Lord help LSU if it is.... Zero is not the guy to build a program. My worry was that he would tear it down quickly. Maybe that is actually what has happened with all the transfers out since he got here. Guy destroyed Ole Miss.

There was a really good, 30-something page thread that got at it this issue the other day, albeit from a different perspective. My thinking is as follows:

1. We probably are in a rebuilding mode, at least to a greater extent than we would like to admit. Uneven recruiting and poor player retention, primarily on the lines, have put us in that spot.

2. If we are in a rebuilding mode, O probably wasn't the best choice. Bully for him that he was able to campaign for and get the job.

3. Even if the school made a mistake with the hire, it doesn't matter. O's the coach and he has to be given a reasonable chance to succeed. That means 2-3 years in the absence of some sort of malfeasance.

4. On the bright side, we still have plenty of talent and it is amazing what difference a key offensive or defensive playmaker can make. We may not be that far off even if the roster has holes.

Then why did a coach that won one National Championship and play in another get fired?

This is not a rebuilding project. We hired a guy whose ceiling is the last guy's floor. O will be mediocre and won't get fired until attendance starts to suffer. This is Florida hiring Ron Zook only we should have known better.

One can say what they want, but Coach O inherited a rebuilding project thanks to some not so good recruiting in some areas by "Mess Miles". Miles's talent and character evaluation skills were also apparently deficient. Consequently, we're thin in some areas and it is going to take a couple of good years of recruiting to shore that up. We have a new OC and it will take a good year to start seeing results (as in next season). Then there is the thing about player attrition with a coaching change and it would have happened regardless of who was HC. Programs go through cycles. We're not exactly in the valley just yet, but we're sure as hell not at our peak and haven't been in at least five years. It will take time, hard work, patience, and a little luck to get back there.

IF this was a rebuilding project like what many are saying, why was O even hired? TAF is on the hook for huge future liabilities. The administration went small and doesn't realize the true wealth of the program.. see Wall Street Journal article from this week. Alleva went out and hired the equivalent of an upcoming Saban for basketball yet pulls a 180 with the football hire.

12 games, 10 wins minimum acceptable this year.
