This will go one of two ways. A moderate waste of money, or a colossal waste of money.

There's no way they can build a 1500 mile wall for 1.6 billion.
Well this is only to fund the Govt for 1 quarter.
I would assume they would allocate more funds the next quarter.

After watching several of the Netflix narco shows such as El Chapo and Narcos, it kind of makes a case for the wall. El Chapo made his way by building tunnels and he was I think the largest drug pusher in the US to day, or one of the biggest. On the new season of Narcos, on several occasions they bragged about NAFTA allowing them the opportunity to move more across the border. If you don't think dropping NAFTA and building a wall won't help tremendously then you might be wrong.
Fix the biggest leaks first and then worry about the small ones that pop up. The first thing I would do to stop trespassing around my home would be to build a fence. Then maybe get a dog and so on. We can adjust once the wall is built and crappy trade agreements are dropped.
I suppose the comments in these films/docs could be exaggerated but isn't Netflix more of a left lean any way?

That's funding for 320 miles more than we had last quarter.

If you are so stupid that you truly think That this installment is meant to fund the entire wall, or that there was every intention of getting all the funding up front, please abort yourself. You are too stupid to let live.

Waste of money.
It's not.
The border wall isn't just of physical deterrent.
It's also effective propaganda against open borders activists and future open borders administrations and Congresses. Trying to tear it down will completely paint them as someone being completely comfortable with out of control illegal immigration. It's a deterrent against those people.

Exactly.

I disagree. This country has done a terrible job at securing the border. The wall and fencing still exists as a barrier even if another president decides to have a lax enforcement policy in the future.

Who claims it would be funded in a single year?
$1.6 Billion per year for 8 years would not even come close to building a full border wall.
When you consider that Trump will be lucky if he finishes his first term, much less two, his pace leaves something to be desired.
And OP doesn't understand how budgets work anyway. This news story is from July. The senate has to approve it before it's a done deal.
