These contracts that confirm that the wall will be built- please describe them in great detail.

nothing about signed/funded contracts confirming the wall in either of those
How do you think this process works?

How do you think it works? You think prototype contracts that are trivial in dollar amount next to the cost of "the wall" confirm that it will be built and funded? You sure seem to in this thread.

to be fair, the contractors have not received anything so far
this is all still in the proposal phase
so you haven't actually proved the point you were trying to make

my understanding was that there actually is some money that they set aside for border fence repairs this fiscal year that they're able to use for these prototype contracts, so this can happen without any progress whatsoever on that $1.6 billion request

yeah, the contractors will get paid for their prototypes
but just because they build prototypes, doesn't mean the wall will be built
I've worked on plenty of government contracts and they can fall through at any time

i didn't realize we were just talking about big, beautiful 30-foot prototypes here
Well I'd say if money is being spent to do it, which it is, then construction is under way.
You're one of those "is" guys I see.

WASHINGTON – A Hispanic-owned construction company from Sierra Vista won one of four contracts awarded this week to build prototypes of President Donald Trump’s proposed border wall with Mexico, the second round of awards in as many weeks. KWR Construction Inc. was chosen by U.S. Customs and Border Protection to build a demonstration section of wall near San Diego using materials other than concrete. The award comes a week after CBP awarded four contracts for wall prototypes made of concrete, one of which was won by Fisher Industries of Tempe. Construction on all the prototypes should begin this fall after contracts are finalized, the agency said. It said that each contract awarded Thursday was worth between $300,000 and $500,000

Construction of the prototypes will be paid for using a $20 million wall fund that was already in the fiscal 2017 budget. The Trump administration is seeking $1.6 billion in the fiscal 2018 budget for the next phases on construction of the wall, which could ultimately cost $21.6 billion, according to one Department of Homeland Security security.

real stretch then to say that these prototype contracts represent any real progress on funding of the wall

Sounds like you're not really good at what you do.

The contract is for prototypes from a few contractors. The CNN article you linked even said that it's possible that none of the prototypes are actually ever used.
The border wall is not being built yet. This contract does not guarantee that it will be in the future.

based on what we have seen to date on Trump's progress on getting this & his other legislative priorities done, "clinging" to these prototype contracts as proof of something seems far more tenuous
but yeah, cling to it, as you say

The Wall—it needs no other name or introduction—is about to take shape. Hundreds of companies have been vying for the job. Now, eight have been awarded up to $500,000 each for the honor of bidding on a plan for the construction of the wall, which will create a separation between the United States and Mexico. The budget for 2018 to build the 2,000 mile structure is $3 billion.
quote:
The challenge is to provide a prototype. After the eight designs have been submitted, the proposals will be judged, and the contract to build what is probably the most talked about structure in modern times will be awarded. Of the $3 billion allocated toward the wall, $1 billion is to be directed to the smart wall projects.
quote:
At this stage in the decision-making process, the best bet is a smart wall over a more traditional, concrete structure—and this seems to be the prevailing direction the wall will take. A smart wall will be easier to construct, and maintain, and will probably be more effective. But it’s not a sure bet and that’s why the four cement-style prototypes were also requested.

Legit question, how much high tech wall as previously described do you get for 1.6 billion?
Spend the infrastructure money on it.
