Here we go again - UVA protests Cops and Robbers party

The irony here. The protestors ended up getting the cops called on them.
And the University responds. They acknowledge that the fraternity didn't actually do anything wrong BUT STILL cancelled their party. Unreal.
I think this is the first time I have seen POTENTIALLY OFFENSIVE in use. That really sets a new standard.

A University of Virginia fraternity came under fire Thursday after it hosted a "cops and robbers" party -- an event a student group said mocked mass incarceration -- but the frat turned the tables on protesters, calling the real police to complain about trespassing.
quote:
“Last night, a group of about twenty or so students shut down a 'cops and robbers' themed date function at the Hall, a fraternity on campus. This came after about an hour of confrontation between the students and party-goers, culminating in the frat calling the police on the students, on the grounds of trespassing,” UVa Students United wrote on Facebook. “The predominantly white members of this fraternity got to take their costumes off at the end of the night, people trapped in the prison system do not."
The group said frat members were wearing orange jumpsuits, bandannas and chains and drew tattoos on themselves. Female party-goers wore “sexy cop” costumes.
“Historically, the police have justified violence against people of color in the name of protecting white women, and in wearing these costumes, these women made a joke of that legacy of violence,” the group wrote.
The group said many of the party’s attendants said they did not mean “to offend or hurt anyone” but the group said that mindset is “the kind of willful ignorance that allows white supremacy to continue.”
And the University responds. They acknowledge that the fraternity didn't actually do anything wrong BUT STILL cancelled their party. Unreal.
quote:
“The Inter-Fraternity Council acknowledges that the theme, while not overtly reprehensible, is potentially offensive to members of the community,” Crochiere said. “As a result, we thought it was best to end the party and other Delta Psi events planned for the weekend in order to reevaluate the situation.”

Three years ago, my then 7 year old dressed like this for Halloween. Orange scrub shirt with my telephone number as his Prisoner ID number stenciled on the pocket, striped pants, complete with a Tyson face tattoo and spiderweb tats on both elbows.
It was hilarious...

It's got to be so exhausting to be perpetually offended. I can't imagine going through life like that.
Do these people some day wake up and realize how dismal they've made their own lives? Or do they just wallow in this constant state of victim hood until they die?

That slippery slope everyone is worried about just got a little bit slipperier

This will probably be a normal occurrence on Frat Row.

Were the "prisoners/robbers" in black face or in any other way insinuating they were black?
If not, how on fricking Earth can this be offensive?
Sexy cop outfits are offensive to people who are worried about police brutality? Isn't that a fricking parody...with tits and arse?

What a fricking leap. You have to WANT to be offended to make this connection.

The media narrative has almost completely shifted from white privilege to white supremacy.

It's literally become the plot of PCU. Makes me want to do this:

This is what parties would look like if these nerds were allowed to get everything they wanted

I guess the fraternity can have a Rolling Stone swap party next where the sorority members make up all kinds of outlandish shite that can't be verified to make their hardcore GDI male friends jealous.

Reading OP I started to wonder what kind of mental gymnastics a person has to do to be able to find the systematic racism in such far fetched things. I started to question if I have the capability of such creative thinking. Do these people find things, then try to create a narrative on how it is racist, or does that though just happen naturally.

quote:Well yea, that's kinda how that whole freedom vs incarceration thing works.
