bullshite. They just refuse to live within there means.

I've seen picture of the house my parents had until I was 5. It was a tiny 1 story shithole starter home way out in the suburbs.

Millennial dips hits keep trying to match the lifestyle their 50/60yr old parents currently have. Not possible morons.

Nobody is building small homes like that anymore.

I don't think this is true at all. I think the big McMansion/boat/car/beach home is not something younger generations value.

Most millennials don't want things - they surely don't want a McMansion in the burbs.

Most of them don't go to private school and run up debt for stupid majors. Most just want to go to LSU before the state legislature (hey - guess what generation they are part of) decided it no longer gives a shat about education.

Yes... some of the millennials eat way too much avocado toast and act like spoiled little turds - but that's a small percentage of the group. Most of them want to start moving up the corporate ladder - but they are blocked by the 55 and 60 year olds who just realized they need to start saving for retirement.

A) it's "their means"
B) not sure if you've followed the housing market lately, but it's gone buck shite wild again, especially in Louisiana. You can't get a decent house in a good neighborhood in BR for under 200k. Closer to 250k

A single guy/girl or even a young couple just starting out can't normally afford to drop that kind of coin for a house.

You realize that in my area that house is worth $300k right?

Neighborhood demographics have changed substantially. Programs like HUD means that many starter home areas are now full of crime. The market also makes a huge difference.

I had a great starter home in NE Texas for <$130k. When I moved back to BR a couple of years ago, my realtor laughed at me when I wanted to look at houses in that price range. He said that he wouldn't feel comfortable selling me a home in those areas. Comparable neighborhoods to what I had before started at $200k.

They want to spend their money on things other than living space. No idea about finances or how to manage money.

Did you read the article? That is what it said they were doing. Heading out of the dense urban areas where housing is too expensive for low incomes and going out to where they can find lower priced homes.

Breesus, not defending some people's poor choices, but let's look at New Orleans. Where are you going to find a reasonably priced house in a not shite area in NOLA? Looking at areas with decent public schools you are severely limited in your choices. So you can send your kids to pricate school at the cost of college tuition to save money on your house.

So do people make poor choice buying $500k houses straight out of college? Yes. But let's be honest about how difficult it is to find a reasonably priced home in a reasonably good area. It's why I've been commuting from Hammond to various places in BR and the south shore for the last decade.

These don't exist in suburbs anymore. A house like this is in the hood.
