At least we aren't as bad as reddit

tl;dr it took about 5 days for word to get to Dany and for her to get back to them. Which is about how long it would take for the ice to freeze enough to support the army of wights. Regarding Gendry, The Raven, and the timing of it all, it makes sense. I'm going to assume since they were looking for a lone White that they were not going in a straight line from East watch, they were probably going back and forth in a zigzag (rip rickon) so Gendry running at full speed back to the wall, let's say that took about 4 hours. The trip from Castle black to Winterfell is about 600 miles (a little farther from East watch), a raven going full speed (28mph) could probably make that trip in a little over a day. From Winterfell to King's Landing is about A Thousand Miles according to Cersei in S5E6, so it would be about the same maybe a little more from Winterfell to Dragonstone. So let's say it takes the raven 4 days to get to Dragonstone. Dragons on the other hand, I couldn't find much info about how fast they can go. So for the sake of argument let's say they top out with a rider at about 175 mph. So that's about a 12-hour flight straight to Snow Team 6. So the overall time it takes Danny to get to Jon, is about 5 days. This makes sense considering that they had to wait for the ice to freeze over the lake again. Considering that the ice had to support a huge hoard of wights, the ice would have to be around 8 inches thick. Assuming an average temperature of 10 °F (they're not that far north) the ice would be growing at 1.5 inches per day. This works out to 7.5 inches of ice. Guys, the math works out.

Like Jaime and Bronn end up half a mile across a lake before he comes up for air?

The theory that the NK can see like Bran and the whole thing was a setup makes sense to me now
Now the NK has a dragon in his aresenal

on a positive note, i adore Beric's actor. great voice
Brother and I were talking about this after the episode. His voice is magnificent. He should be doing voice work for a lot of stuff.

But I just don't get why people can't admit the quality of the writing has dipped. The breakneck pace is good for finally bringing characters together, but the show has lost a lot of the nuance I've loved.
i think the last 2 seasons are really separating the class of viewers
rewatching the series and getting to blackwater really just makes you realize how far its fallen

I was wondering why the wights didn't have javelins or arrows when they were stuck across the moat from Jon & Co.
Hell, just throw some rocks like the Hound did. 100,000 vs 9 would be pretty one sided if every wight could throw a rock.

Blackwater is the best episode of the series. As much as I liked Tormund and the Hound going back and forth, I think the Hound and Bronn was better, where the Hound was on the cusp of killing Bronn (and Bronn knew it as well) and then come the horns.

I started the show during Season 6 and binged it having not read the books. I'm currently reading through them now. I can see how people who have read the books would be disappointed. It's also not hard to understand how people who just like television/movies would be disappointed with some of the stuff this season.
Writing is really, really hard. It's even harder when you had material to pull from and then you don't. It's even harder when that's the case and your show is now one of the most popular television programs ever run. I don't envy the people having to tell this story. I don't want to seem like I'm saying this is irredeemable and they're bad. I think the opposite actually. They've done a good job overall, and I know they can do better. I just want them to finish strong.

We had this argument last week and your argument was full of holes. In fact, I think pretty much everybody was in disagreement with you.

The writing has fell off the further they've gotten away from the source material. Can't really complain seeing that GRRM will never finish the books or had they followed his timelines we'd be looking at a series finale in 2023.

I was really hoping we'd see Jon try to mount Rhaegal this episode.
Guess we'll have to wait until S8.

I haven't seen any leaks and don't want to know anything ahead of time.
What about a dragonglass spear on Qyburn's weapon to take out the ice dragon?
Bronn saves the world.

Actually a number agreed with me that Jon is a bad battlefield commander. I incorrectly used the term leader in place at the beginning but altered to say battlefield commander, which was the more applicable label for what I was trying to discuss.
- even Sansa agreed with me tonight.

It wouldn't take 5 days for that lake to freeze when it's 20-30 below freezing.

When he went below the water, I was saying "come on Rhaegal" almost sure he would save Jon.
