To species that practice it. Like is there a certain class or genus that all species of it fall into or is it pretty random throughout nature. Naturally curious although I'm sure this is the last place I should be asking

This sounds like a good topic for Pecker's next animal thread

Male chimps will sometimes rape other male chimps, especially after winning a fight, as a display of dominance

I don't have a link, but I have heard on nature shows on tv that animals exhibit homosexual tendencies in the range of 10% - 15%...
I don't doubt that at all based on the behavior of cattle that I have seen.

If you think homosexuality is rare in nature, your country bumpkin arse is about to get rocked (in a gay way)
Check out this list of every animal to have recorded homosexuality behavior. It's pretty damn big FYI
And keep your "naturally curious" talk to your mom, it's clear your a fig

In nature, such activity is to display dominance over a rival. For example, male hippos fight over territory/females, and it has been observed that the victor hippo mounts the loser in a display of dominance.

Bonobos (Pygmy Chimpanzees) are the sexual freaks of the animal kingdom.
quote:primates.com
Perhaps the bonobo's most typical sexual pattern, undocumented in any other primate, is genito-genital rubbing (or GG rubbing) between adult females. One female facing another clings with arms and legs to a partner that, standing on both hands and feet, lifts her off the ground. The two females then rub their genital swellings laterally together, emitting grins and squeals that probably reflect orgasmic experiences. (Laboratory experiments on stump- tailed macaques have demonstrated that women are not the only female primates capable of physiological orgasm.)
Male bonobos, too, may engage in pseudocopulation but generally perform a variation. Standing back to back, one male briefly rubs his scrotum against the buttocks of another. They also practice so-called penis-fencing, in which two males hang face to face from a branch while rubbing their erect penises together.

It's very common in nature (dolphins). However, it's often done for dominance purposes.
Rape (mallards) also happens, as well as murdering offspring to put females back in heat (lions).
Going back to the original question, I often wonder if "homosexual" animals still eventually reproduce sexually.
The animals can be gay too argument wouldn't hold as much water when you look at it that way.

I had a neighbor with gay dogs. They were poodles though so it checks out.

Animals just like to frick. I don't think it's rare at all for male animals to frick other male animals of their species (or other species probably). But I think that's more that they're just horny animals that like to frick, I don't think most animal species posses the mental capacity to be attracted to only one gender or the other.
There are species that are hermaphrodites though.

Are you asking if it's ok that you're gay? Because it isn't.

Doesn't matter. We are not other species. Some dogs eat shite. Doesn't mean it's okay for us. Being queer is a mental illness. Harmless in and of itself, but still it's a mental illness.

Once scientist find the gay gene everyone is going to start aborting their little queer babies.

My guess is, Every species that embraced it wholly is now extinct.

I think this is actually common. Even in household pets

I suppose it depends on how willingly the researcher anthropomorphizes behavior that, to the animal is an attempt at dominance, in favor of suggesting the behavior is homosexual.
