My wife and I are planning on joining the Catholic church and I know RCIA usually starts in August/September. We are still torn on which church to join. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also, my wife and I both work shift work. How lenient are the churches when we have to miss an RCIA class?

Thanks!

I wanna say you have to do RCIA at the church parish that is designated to you.

It goes by where you live.

I went through it at Christ the King when I was 21 and learned a lot.

What parish do you live in?

"Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." - Matthew 7:14

Good luck on your quest.

Do you have kids? Just curious since you want to become Catholic.

Depends on what y'all are looking for. Go to mass at the closest church and then the next closest 4 or so.

Check out St. Jude if it's convenient to where you live. It's a great church. Also just want to say that I am a Catholic convert myself and it has been the blessing of a lifetime for me. I wish you and your wife the very best in your Catholic journey. I know it will be a truly powerful experience for you both

Your parish church will have a program . I went through it , I am catholic but did not attend church or catechism so when I got married I went to RCIA . It was a good experience and they weren't too hard when I could not make meetings . This was twenty years ago .

My wife went through RCIA when we lived in Texas. Our parish mandated you attend a certain percentage of the meetings to be admitted, but the deacon was available to get together outside of meetings if there was an issue.

We actually looked at another church a few years earlier and they had an on odd policy where most people took two years to go through RCIA.

My suggestion is to go to the church either closest to home, or the one nearest your work if that would make meeting attendance easier.

My family attends OLOM, but I've found most of the parishes in BR to be great.

May want to think this through if you have young male children.

Since you live out by MBS, I'd go through the program there, or St. Jean Vienny, or St. Patrick.

I've been working with the RCIA program in our parish for the last 5 years. The parish pastor usually dictates how often candidates and catechumens can miss. Here, as long as you make a genuine effort to participate in some way, even if it's just calling ahead when you are going to miss, you'll be confirmed.

I went through it at St. Joseph downtown...we visited different parishes as part of the program, including St. Patrick's in New Orleans. Highly recommended...it was a great experience.

They are going to hold you accountable for attendance...you can't miss a bunch of them.

I lived in BR and did it at St Teresa of Avila church in gonzales because I liked the priest. Was a lot of commitment and travel though. Point is I think you can really do it anywhere you feel comfortable

Congratulations on your family's journey to be a part of the Catholic family.

I am a convert and was confirmed in 1987. I believe that the RCIA requires a Catholic Sponsor. I had one. The local Parish and diocese should be able to meet with you and provide someone to guide your family on the initiation. The time that is required for entry is about one year which usually culminates around Holy Thursday.

God bless your family and welcome to your new journey of Faith !
