So we built s bridge where hardly anybody used it because BR didn't try hard enough to get it?
Come on man this is ridiculous.

How anyone can vote for more taxes after seeing what the state does with our money has to be crazy or just flat out doesn't make enough money to care about the small amount they have taken out of their paycheck. This state has been corrupt for a long time and it's about time for each office to have highly visible, transparent budgets. To most, including myself, the state budget is a mystery. My opinion until proven otherwise is that the state brings in enough revenue but has a spending problem. Im sure its more complex than what the OT can figure out on a message board, but it shouldn't be rocket science.

Complying with dumb federal regulations isn't an example of spending tax dollars for our benefits.
It would be better to use the handicap ramp money on building sidewalks where there are none than building the ramps everywhere.

I can tell you one of the biggest Clusters done with the I-10 bridge over the miss river is that sharp curve heading out of baton Rouge before going up the bridge. What genius Designed that
The guy that designed that has long been dead and buried.
That is how long that problem has been ignored in Baton Rouge. About 200,000 people lived in the metro area when they built that. 850,000 live there now.

Whomever is responsible for engineering I-10 thru BR should be sued.

The only traffic problem in Baton Rouge that might have a solution is the movement of through traffic on the I-10/I-12 corridor. It will be ridiculously expensive to build a bridge/bypass, toll road or whatever, but it could be done so that people who must pass through this bottleneck of a city could do so. The federal government should address the problem for the INTER-state traffic and leave the local problems for the city/state to address.
But the internal traffic problems of Baton Rouge can probably never be fixed due to geography, politics, prior poor planning, and the parish's political future.
North-south surface streets are beyond capacity with only a few that cross the interstate. Existing residential and commercial development on those streets make effective expansion physically, financially, and politically impossible. Undeveloped corridors for new north-south highways do not exist.
East-west surface streets are a little better, especially in the northern half of the parish, but that is not where the growth is. In the southern half of the parish, Perkins Road is being pushed to its limits, and Highland will never expand.
Our democrat governor and mayor have gone all out with the "every problem and every opportunity starts with a new tax" mantra. No matter how much they get, they'll be sure that it was less than they first proposed, so they can always point to selfish taxpayers as the reason for their own inevitable failures.

Well since you seem to have the answers why not contact those pesky federal bureaucrats and have them just whip up a policy change to suit your whims...hell with the handicapped.
But to blame the local municipality, engineer and contractor for being inefficient with those precious tax dollars which they are dictated by law seems pretty seems simple minded-much like many of the posts in this thread.

and evidently no one in this thread has heard of an ADA suit, either
They aren't adding wheelchair ramps because they're super sensitive SJWs, folks

Yes. Yes it is. It's also accurate. The money for the Audobin bridge was about to be lost so they built the bridge there as opposed to losing the funds.
If EBR ( and surrounding areas) hadn't shite and stood in it, there might be a more useful bridge right here.

Angry, yes. Little bitch...hardly. I'm more of a fed-up, raving lunatic, anti-tax, limited government a-hole. And people like you, JBE, and SWB whose only solution is to confiscate more of my earnings can go to hell. You offer no solutions other than tax raises or other revenue raising (tolls) as opposed to calling for fiscal accountability. I'll offer you the same challenge I always do.
If you feel you don't pay enough in taxes, send a check to the state. I'll gladly oppose you and any other tax lover as I think I pay enough already and get little if anything in return.

The corners are required to be handicap accessible by ADA the Federal Government, not your local municipality. Curb and gutter replacement that you might think is good have subsurface failure as does the complete roadbed. This is why your streets are being replaced and repaired - properly I might add.
Funny how they are tearing out some sections for a second time, and adding others. Face it, the more the contractor tears out the more he gets paid, I'm quite sure it is unit pricing.
As far as the ADA requirements go I can't confirm whether or not the Feds regulate every sidewalk in every 20+ year old subdivision in LA. Regardless it is a waste.
quote:
If a simple overlay is done you would be posting here in two years complaining about the shitty job that the contractor did.
Negative ghostrider. They repaired the failing sub grade spots already. An overlay is acceptable for residential traffic provided sub grade failures are addressed.

Be glad your tax money is actually being spent for your benefit.
Not glad the money is not being spent wisely. And that is the problem with government. While the populace has to find ways to do more with less, the Govt gets to find ways to spend more and then complain with their hands out when the money runs out.

Good Lord, man. When have I never called for accountability? I was very excited about Abramson's bill to strengthen the trust fund to make sure that the road money was going where it was supposed to go. It was an effort to do exactly what people like you bitch about, i.e., create accountability. But no, it's still a tax, so hell naw I ain't votin for it.
I have not heard you offer any solutions on how to pay for a billion dollar bridge. Since you live in Erwinville, I'm assuming you agree that one needs to be built.
ETA: My SIL and BIL live in your hood (I was there yesterday), and they both commute to the LSU vet school every day. They spend retarded amounts of time in traffic every single day. I travel through BR and across the river on a weekly basis. So it's not like I'm just sitting here pontificating about something I know nothing about.

I have no problem with the Audubon Bridge. If Louisiana built more infrastructure in advance of critical need (when costs and political bullshite is much more manageable), then we wouldn't be facing the insurmountable problems that Baton Rouge faces today. In many other states, you will find massive, over-built highways on the edges of the cities that can accommodate growth far into the future. You can find roads that were built for expansion with rights-of-way already acquired and engineered for future growth.
Louisiana and Baton Rouge surely have massive problems with too few roads and bridges. I am not about to complain that we have too many of them anywhere in this state.
But here, tax dollars have been and are still being wasted, and planning and spending has focused on covering up past problems instead of preventing future problems.

You think they added ramps to get some contractors paid? It's far more likely it was part of a settlement agreement. And you probably wouldn't think it was a waste if you were in a wheelchair, either.
A similar situation arose in my neighborhood a year or two ago. There were complaints *exactly* like yours, until the city responded with the details of the settlement and class action lawsuit that prompted it and folks just kinda quieted down

If my hostility towards taxes and tax supporters has blinded me to your calls for accountability, I apologize. most of your posts I remember are about state funding, be it for LSU or a gas tax/road tax. And you're usually calling for/supporting a tax. Im going to oppose you on that issue every time. On fiscal accountability, we can agree.
And yes, as a resident of WBR, I certainly agree another route over the River is needed. I like the idea of toll roads- that's why I have a HCTRA toll tag in my windshield and gladly pay to use those roads in TX.
But Louisiana has done nothing to convince me that it can mange a toll road any better than my tax dollars. Look around Slippy. There isn't much one can look at in this state and be confident that the powers at be will
Manage it properly. I have zero faith in our politicians. Until they gain my trust, I don't want to give them more money.
I can empathize with your and your family's commuting woes. Id like to be able to run my weekend errands without worrying about the bridge, same as you. But I know more money isn't the answer. And until we have a huge cultural shift in government (no more cronyism, corruption) and get more accountability, my opposition won't change

Well I guess then the entire planet should be re-engineered and renovated to accommodate every single handicap imaginable regardless of expense.
Just because something is done, does not mean it makes FINANCIAL sense.
There has to be a balance and government has proven they cannot recognize a balance between benefit AND cost.
