Don't make a frick either way. Players are juiced and the balls are juiced to the gills as well.
Which further proves my point. A juiced ball, plus a juiced athlete & mick could hit it 100 feet further? Yeah, uhhh no. Not to mention Canseco, McGwire, Sosa, Bonds, etc never came close to that either

And the Babe could hit it even further. I believe it. Those guys just knew how to hit.
Is there any sport where records still stand from the 1930's?
Look at the track times from the 1930's. Do people get slower as time goes on? Of course not.

Babe Ruth wouldn't make a roster today lol

Does Mantle look like a chump compared to today's hitters even though he wasn't on roids?
Does he?
I don't think so.
Human evolution doesn't work in one or two generations.

6'0" 195. He's the size of an undersized 2nd baseman in today's game
No, HUMAN evolution doesn't happen that fast, but ATHLETIC evolution does

I swear people get fricking retarded when talking about great players from a long time ago.

And Bob Beamon's record stood for 25 years before it was broken (by 2 measly inches)...and Jesse Owens own long-jump record stood for 25 years before it was broken.
That's the advancement of sports.
Baby steps...baby steps...
To say Ruth or Mantle couldn't play today is absurd. Totally fricking absurd.
And if eyewitnesses and newspapers account for balls being hit out of stadiums in real live pitchers for real live games - speed plus force - not batting practice HR derby.
I know fake news is a thing now - but are we now going back and saying the media always just made shite up about Ruth and people like Mantle and that they sucked and fans were duped?

Mantle and Ruth hit more home runs than 99% of the players that play tday. They did it in much bigger ballparks and without steroids tdays strength and conditioning or diets plus they were out all night drinking and womanizing but it's impossible to think they hit long home runs? This generation has an obsession with revisionist history and competition instead of them having to surpass records it's easier for them to deface the records and move ahead by default instead of earning their place in history. It's the entire mindset of the modern age.

quote:Yeah, so did the pitchers. They also threw with dead arms from pitching so much and didn't have near the stuff pitchers do today.

But it's impossible to think they hit long home runs?

Lmfao a lie? Wow the ignorance is palpable just because one ballpark on your Xbox was short in the corners doesn't mean they all were and how many of their home runs were 5-7 feet from the foul poles? It's not a fairy tale it's fact. Ballparks built today are specifically designed to promote home runs as opposed to the gigantic parks Mantle and Ruth played in try doing your homework next time. Polo grounds 500 feet in center when it opened, Yankees stadium 490 feet in center until 1923, tiger stadium 467 in center when it opened there isn't a park within 55 feet of any of those places now much less some of the other monster parks back in the day.

Polo Grounds: 279 to left and 258 to right.
Ebbets Field: 384 to center and 297 to right.
Original Yankee Stadium: 285 to left, 295 to right.
Yeah, some old ballparks were like 500+ feet to center, but nobody was hitting them out to center. They were short as shite down the lines.
I also wonder how many inside the park homeruns were hit back then if you hit it over the center fielder's head.
