After watching these boys tonight, No he didn't. Ain't no way that happened. Mickey is my favorite legend but that's just a fish story

Yeah I called bullshite on that right when I read it a while back.

People always try to pump up legends to mythical status by repeating nonsense to make them seem superhuman.

If that's the case Ted Williams hit a ball 2000 miles. (It landed on a train.)

"country strong"

Naturally - muscles weren't for show or made by roids.

It was working strength - not puffy shirt muscles.

Look at the torque on that swing with the arm strength and trunk tree lower body.

Lasorda said Mantle could hit it a mile and was the greatest talent he ever saw.

This, they counted the roll. These measurements at home run derby are estimates at where it would land.

I just looked up longest home run ever hit and it said 575 by Babe Ruth. I am quite skeptical.

Killebrew is verified at 520 feet.

Major League Baseball's longest verifiable home run distance is 575 feet (175 m), by Babe Ruth, to straightaway center field at Tiger Stadium.

Why couldn't Mantle hit one 565?

There's a difference between game fastballs and batting practice.

And the Babe could hit it even further. I believe it. Those guys just knew how to hit.

Which is why it's weird to see people in this thread to think everything that happened before 1980 is total mythology.

Some of Mick's shots:

620 (not verified like Ruth's 575 shot but measured)

Because 2 goliaths hitting BP could only hit 1 513. As "country strong" as much was, he ain't hitting a ball like any of those guys.

Don't make a frick either way. Players are juiced and the balls are juiced to the gills as well. Gotta get clicks and eyeballs on the TV so baseball pulling out all the tricks. Is it more entertaining? Sure for the mouth breathers. I enjoyed the few years we had that pitchers made studs look like fools. The dollar always wins though.
