Omg, you mean to tell me that the driver may have had to slow down and wait for clear path to pass? The horror of his trip time being delayed by many seconds or even minutes!
It's the Trace, if time is of the essence, take the interstate.
With no paved shoulder, a cyclist is better off keeping a dominate position of the lane than get over to the side and tempt a car to pass in unsafe conditions. The same rule applies for motorcyclists, keep control of your lane so cars aren't encouraged to "just shoot on by real quick".

I ride and train on this road and there's actually a sign saying cyclists can use the entire lane right where this happened so everyone who is taking up for the driver can frick off. This road isn't for speeding, it's a fricking park so if you don't like the cyclists, go drive on the highway instead.

I've been driving the trace for 20+ years and anyone driving it knows there are cyclists everywhere. Just pace them then pass when it's clear.
Those cyclists have just as much right to that road as cars.

Exactly. The most dangerous thing is people who think that they don't have to treat passing you with respect and safety. Not getting t-boned or run over from behind or something. "Oh it's just a cyclist, so it doesn't matter that I can't see, I'll squeeze past and if a car is coming from the opposite direction at the last second, I'll just squeeze the rider into the ditch at 25 mph." Those close calls happen more than anything I've seen. Then the driver yells about a cyclist when the whole time it's because they made an illegal pass. Cyclist was taking up more of the lane so that you wouldn't do exactly what you did, not to force you to do it.

Please God let this be true. Karma's a bitch.
I'd be a little more discreet, but that is a true American.
An American that's going to be wasting away in prison for several years. With all the work the Park has done to make ot safer for cyclist the feds will absolutely make an example out of this idiot.

The guy has been arrested. News Article
"According to the National Park Service, 58-year-old Marshall Grant Neely III was booked into the Williamson County Detention Center on Saturday night, where he is charged with reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to immediately notify of an accident, and failure to render aid. He could face federal charges, too"

He wasn't wearing fancy (ridiculous looking) riding clothes. He clearly is a beginner.
I live about 2 miles off the trace on a country road that makes a loop, so I get a lot of riders (and motorcycles) passing by on weekends. The speed limit through most of Williamson County is 40. Cyclists have the same rights to the road as motorists. The driver of that SUV is in serious trouble...and this will be a federal penalty.

Looks like the driver, marshal grant Neely lll, may also be questioned in another hit and run on a cyclist.

Dumbass going to do a few years in prison because he couldn't wait 15 seconds to pass correctly in a Park.
