This is for events, there are cyclists on the trace everyday. But there are more on the weekends, obviously.

For any group of 8 or more a special use permit is required. Like I said earlier, all National Parks have this. Designated wilderness areas have this same requirement. I do alot of backpacking trips and we always have a max of seven so we don't have to bother with it.

To be fair, he misunderstood. It is obviously for events, not simply casual riding.

Also, I'm not sure if it is possible to be a more prototypical cycling douchebag than you're being in this thread. You give them all a bad name.

Nobody deserves to be run over just for riding a bicycle.

By law, the guy had the same rights to that lane as the Volvo. I suppose we'll see who is in the wrong when convictions are dealt.

I gave you the info straight from the site. 8 people traveling in a group, same as for hiking. It's the same for the Blue Ridge, the Trace, Shenandoah, etc. And yes, they do ticket cyclists, in that district particularly.

Serious cyclists are annoying. If more of them get hit, maybe they'll stop being so annoying.

10,000 miles a year, most on the Trace in this exact area by myself and with upwards of 50 people sometimes (gsd training rides) and hung out with the park rangers multiple dozens of times at rest stops when we pulled in for water.

This over the course of the last 20 years.

But you know the law so I'll stop pretending

Slackster, this is often misunderstood. It is not just for events. This is required for any group. It's purpose was to lessen any impact on other visitors of the Park. It's also the reason why the cycling group in Tupelo no longer uses the Trace as part of their weekly ride. Depending on the ranger, some areas get more enforcement than others. But that district is pretty strict on both cyclist and motorcyclists.

I never said they did. I said they deserve what they get when they're an inconsiderate a-hole. Especially when it comes to them challenging a two ton vehicle. I'm all for standing your ground, but the law of grosse tonnage should never be disregarded.

Most cyclists seem to disregard it regularly.

Used to see the arrogant "hog the entire lane" side by side b.s. on 175 near the Port of Shreveport. Then, the oil boom his and the road had a lot of salt and oil field trucks. Wisely, most of the cyclists switched to single file when vehicles approach.

In the area I live there are designated bike lanes on roads everywhere and multiple paved bike trails all through the surrounding area. So why do bikers chose to cycle on a busy two lane highway during high traffic times causing a dangerous situation for themselves and frustrated motorist wanting to pass.

Yea but it would be like having all the peanut M&Ms you can handle but no regular when you get that itch. I like freedom and poon too much to dream of prison life. But... To your question I'd make do for sure.

I drive the Trace often and would rather encounter 10-15 different groups of bike riders hogging the whole lane. Than one fricking bus size RV or 5th wheel camper.

You can pass the bike groups no problem but you will be behind that RV/camper for 20 miles.

You can also pass cyclist on the Trace in a no passing zone when the roadway is clear.

I don't know if he deserved to get hit, but he is definitely riding in a high risk situation and should not be surprised that it happened.

That's the problem with those cyclists. They feel entitled because they're cyclists. As though that means anything.

I can call myself a walker and walk on the road. But don't be surprised if I eventually get hit because I'm going way slower than the flow of traffic and people don't pay attention.

Did you see something I didn"t? The cyclist was intentionally hit and he deserved it?
