your ignorance is showing. Racers are required to wear their kits whenever they are riding due to contractual agreements with the sponsors and club riders purchase special kits in order to help with costs so they can continue to sponsor events such as the harpeth River century.. which Lance actually rode with us in a few years back

really. Tell me more.

Not sure what to say. National Parks and designated Wilderness Areas require special use permits for groups of 8 or more. (The Trace also requires a special use permit for thru hikers which I can't say I understand.) I am on mobile so I'm not going to go back and format the pasted section so it's probably easier to read from the link.

From the Trace's website

Special Use- Cycling

Special Bicyclists Conditions

quote:

Special Bicyclists Conditions

Special Use Permit
A group of 8 or more participants are required to obtain a permit.Bicyclists participating in events must use proper hand signals for turning and stopping. All bicyclists are required to wear high-visibility clothing, a safety helmet and must have front and rear flashing lights. No racing is permitted along the roadway or the Ridgeland Multi-use Trail; no events will be timed.Events conducted on the Parkway, which is open to vehicular traffic, shall require bicyclists to travel in single file, on the far right side of the road, or on the road shoulder. Participants may not impede traffic in any manner during this event. The Parkway does not allow support vehicles to precede or follow bicyclists. Experience has shown that conditions are safer if the flow of traffic is allowed to adjust itself to existing conditions. One vehicle, however, will be allowed to pull off onto the road shoulder to provide water and relief to participants.Bike rides with 50 or more participants shall erect a minimum of two temporary signs on the road shoulder to warn oncoming traffic of the special event. All persons operating a bicycle are subject to the laws and regulations applicable to operation of a motor vehicle. Operating a bicycle abreast of another bicyclist is prohibited. Bicyclists should ride on the right side of the roadway in groups of five or less, keeping at least 500 feet between groups. For groups of bicyclists over 50, a 15 minute staggered start will be required for every 50 bicyclists. A bicycle may not be operated between sunset and sunrise without exhibiting a white light in the front visible from 500 feet and a flashing red light visible from at least 200 feet to the rear.

I run quite a bit and have a mtn bike, but I don't have a road bike. It seems like a waste given how close I live to such an awesome resource.

I lived in Brentwood and worked in Columbia when I first moved to Nashville back in 2002. So I drove the trace a lot. Got pulled over late one Oct evening for going 60, but only got a warning because the ranger was looking for poachers.

I really don't get the clothes either, but riders clearly like them for some performance reason. So who am I - as someone who has never ridden seriously - to judge.

There are lots of other things to be upset about.

To kepp moisture away from the skin to avoid chafing on the 5+ hour rides in the heat of the day, the rear pockets to store food and phone, the chamois in the shorts to keep your a-hole from rubbing a blister.. and about 100 more reasons.

But no we just wear that stuff because we want to be Lance.

YOU NAILED IT!

This is for events, there are cyclists on the trace everyday. But there are more on the weekends, obviously.

exactly. They should just buy a stairmaster and never sniff the outdoors.

Eta I'll ask the park service to remove the signs from the roads they designated for cyclists too since you don't think they should be there.

Let's see. I thru hiked the Appalachian Trail, I work for the NPS with quite a bit of that work being with the Trace, I have a 40 acre offgrid homestead, and spend my vacations either doing triathlons or taking trips back to the A.T. I'd say I spend most of my time outdoors, but that's just me.

Hope he gets federal pound my arse prison.
People who get road rage and respond with violence are broken humans and should be in prison.

Was still funny because nobody's organs spilled all over the road like on Perkins Rd a few Years ago.

And yet you think 8 people cycling on the Trace need a special permit.

Everything GGoose said. Thanks for not being an a-hole cyclist. I'll share the road with you all day if you show some consideration. If not, you deserve what that tard got- run over.
