I actually used to sing at them - I've known several winners personally and they'd ask me to perform during vote tallies.
Best memory was wearing a tux surrounded by all the girls in bikinis in a 15 by 15 room about to go out on stage together. Felt like James Bond.

Sorry, but "Miss Drag Queen of Bourbon Street" doesn't count.

You may as well ask why parents pay so much money to put their kids in travel ball. It's the same concept.

I don't get pageant culture... why would anyone waste their time & money on This non-sense. I'd rather my daughter play a team sport that teaches them how to be a team player.
Pageant culture is stupid.
Downvote for no MFing pictures.
Let the OT be the judge.

I dated a girl who had been runner up the year before we met and didnt make the top 5 the year we were together. The most miserable experience there ever has been. That who pageant world is 10 lbs of shite in a 5 lb bag.

I'm torn. I did a few back in the day, but was encouraged to compete by my high school due to the fact that I would excel in talent and interview. I was fit during HS, so I did well with the few I did. But then college, not so much.
I wouldn't put my daughter in them but if/when she grows up (as in teenager) and decided she would like to try it, I would let her. And I wouldn't blow tons of money because it defeats the purpose of winning scholarships.
The argument I have in favor of it is this: the experience and connections you make can actually be life altering. I wouldn't have had the early success in my career had I not had such refined interview and performance skills. Lastly, I wouldn't have my current career if it weren't for a connection I had through pageants.
TLDR: did a few pageants, my daughter won't do any until she's in HS or older IF SHE requests to do them--but I won't be encouraging it otherwise. Can teach life skills and help in your career down the line.

quote:I can see that. Just like sports, kids can make lifetime friends and connections and learn life skills. But parents can also go way overboard with it and make it a negative rather than a positive.

Ok that's not them at fear of outing my alters.
But the rest is true. Don't believe the hype. Beauty queens are just that: on the surface in every way possible.

Exactly. It's about what you put into it and get out of it. Obviously there's the good and the bad.

How can a event be stupid?
A person yes, but a event?
You sound insane. I suggest drinking a 12 ounce glass of draino to cure your problem.
