Hill/ piney wood southerners very similar to midwesterners except for food - both are really buttoned up , really really conservative - mostly baptist / penecostal

Delta/coastal/Cajun/creole southerners- still conservative but a little wilder , like social events, party more. Lots more Catholic, Methodist, episcopal

I would say mid western people are a lot more socially conservative and judgemental and rigid than southerners. Example on here that I used the other day:

I was coughing at work and one of my managers joked that I needed to stop my pack a day habit. I told them I had smoked maybe one cigarette in my life and both managers were shocked. "That's one more than I ever had," and "there are leaders and followers in this world" was the response I got.

A good bit. Midwestern folks aren't cliqish like southerners, and the women are a lot more independent. Southerners are obsessed with food and social standing. Midwesterners have similar values, but aren't particularly religious.

The biggest difference is that the Midwest is incredibly racist.

Other than that the food would be the biggest difference. Followed by the vestige of the manufacturing economy in the rust belt.

The Internet is not even big enough to list all the differences. If I started right this second and typed non stop 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, for the rest of my life, it would still not be enough time to list all the differences.

Politeness routed in actual kindness rather than keeping up appearances
Catfish
Grits
Different accent
Different slang

That's about it.

I grew up in KS for 21 years so I will chime in.

Midwest doesnt really have a cuisine like nola has cajun. Kc has bbq, Chicago has pizza, it varies. As someone else has already stated, casseroles are go to meal, i was passed downed a cook book that is literally 150 pages of nothing but casseroles.

There are not as many scoial cliques. When at a sporting event its a sporting event and not a social gathering. Ppl love to tailgate like they do in the south. Ppl like nascar. Mosst ppl are really religious. My hometown was 98.8% white. Family is important to most people. People are very polite and generous with everything.

Most moms work, cook, take kids to school, practice, etc. People live to grill out and drink beer with friends and family. Shitty Chinese food.

I kind of went all over the place, but its not as different as you may think.

Despite southern stereotypes, people from the Midwest are actually much much more racist.

I attribute this to the fact that in the Midwest 98% of the black people live only in the cities. I lived 45 minutes north of Indianapolis for about a year once. Unless you went into the city or worked in a warehouse then you could go weeks without seeing a single black person. The South is obviously not like that.

Also the white trash in the Midwest is somehow exponentially more trashy and more widespread than in the south.

I've lived in Indiana and Arkansas and the two areas are very similar. From what I gathered there are a few small differences. The South is a little more religious. The girls aren't as good looking in the Midwest but they're more fun! People in the South tend to be more reserved about what they'll talk about. I think that's why some people have said people in the Midwest are more racist. IMO they're just more open about what they're thinking. The single biggest difference is the amount of alcohol they consume up north. I went to an SEC school and was not ready for the level of depravity I encountered on a big 10 campus.

Not as much garbage on the side of the road in the Midwest as in the South.

Midwestern people are boring as frick. Well, not all of them of course, but the midwestern people I have been around, they seem like they live boring lives.
