Why doesn't Louisiana ever have operational Weigh Stations?

It seems every weigh station I pass in LA is closed. I know the one in LaPlace is Weigh In Motion, but doesn't the truck have to have certain equipment for this to work? You can say the same for most Rest Areas in LA.

The one in Hammond is operational isn't it?

State probably doesn't have the money to operate them. Also, the reason we have no state rest stops.

Isn't most of it automatically done on those roll over plates now?

Honestly, I have often wondered why you need duplicate weigh stations...typically located at the state lines with one on each side of the line?....

With fines as steep as they are I would imagine you lose money when they are shut down.

Maybe states have different weight limits?

I hadn't thought of that...I guess that since I generally see weigh stations on interstate highways, I assumed weights were set by the federal gov't.

Coming in from Texas on I-10, the state is building a new rest area. Looks like it will be a large one.

State Police are supposed to be running them.

The ones in the New England area are pretty high tech. They have heat sensors to check for functioning brakes, weight of vehicle while rolling, x-ray of the cargo, and some even check for radioactive materials, especially around Boston and Manhatten.

Feds set the limit on federal interstate system. States set limits on state highways.

Weigh stations? How about bringing back rest areas.
