I agree that with no facts on either side people shouldn't make a judgement call. No matter what, opening fire on a moving vehicle was dumb unless they directly fired at the cop from the vehicle.
My thing is that the vehicle didn't stop even after being fired upon? Ill be curious how far they went or how long and if that will help or hurt their case. If they drove for awhile then I would think it would hurt their case as they could have potentially gotten rid of evidence.
In the OT's opinion, does the chief going to the family help or hurt their defense? No matter what, they are getting sued and investigated. So does it help anything to go offer condolences?

The chief going to the family is a pro-active attempt to try and help calm the potential situation. I'm sure what happened last year is on everyone's mind.

shite starters wont start shite here after last summer. I promise you that much.
If they do, zero tolerance out of that march for sure!
Of course, to them, speaking their minds isn't peacefully protesting, it's causing harm to others and burning shite down.

The officers were responding to a shots fired call, so I have to believe they had their lights flashing.
They HEARD shots. It wasn't part of the call. The call was underage drinking. It's likely they were creeping up on the party, not coming in hot.

Think about that for a second, they had 'no idea' what was behind them yet drove right down the middle of the street?
Maybe cars were parked on each side of the street forcing them to drive down the middle.

You just fled a party where gunshots were fired. Someone shot at your car as you were fleeing.
Given this sequence of events, you would stop?
I wouldn't. I would drive to the closest safe place.

Why do they always do this when it usually comes back to bite them on the arse?

And that was why I mentioned how far they drove. If they drove a few blocks and called the cops (if they didn't know that cops were who shot them) that is different than driving miles and calling the cops an hour later. I didn't mean it like they didn't stop immediately, the article mentioned that they noticed the kid wasn't talking as they were driving, didn't mention how long or how far.

The family attorney is Gravy 2.0 . . . this is getting ugly.

As the family struggles to deal with the pointless murder of their child they now have to face false claims of under-age drinking and fabrications about “aggressive" behavior. The Balch Springs PD has offered a familiar narrative in the absence of weapons or any indication of actual danger to the officer and any other person. The claim that the vehicle that Edwards occupied when he was shot “moved in an aggressive way toward an officer” is transparently contrived in order to justify a defenseless act of murder. The facts will bear out the truth and on behalf of the family we demand transparency with all facts and evidence involved. The family is calling on the community to stand with them, resolute in the demand for justice. Civil Rights Attorneys, Lee Merritt, Jasmine Crockett and Daryl Washington, are reviewing the evidence and actively talking to individuals who may have witnessed the incident. They are calling on officials to release the name and identity of the officer involved in the deadly shooting.

Sounds like an honest and terrible mistake that should cost the officer his badge.
blindly shooting into an occupied car and not sure if they were the shooters is an honest mistake? I would like to know how close the car was to running over the officer before I say it was an honest mistake. Now if they had seen the car backing down shooting disregard my comment.

This local case has always disgusted me. I'm Pro-LEO but why this cop was not fired much less charged with murder baffles me.

Leading up to the incident, police were called to the scene related to Domingue driving recklessly in the parking lot. As events unfolded and he was taken into custody, Magee either told or asked (accounts differ) Harris to move Dominique's car despite witnesses saying Harris told Magee he was drunk.
Harris was shot while moving the car after he smashed into various vehicles in the parking lot, including police cruisers. Magee said at the time he was worried for his safety, and those around him, so he opened fire. Harris was shot dead. Magee also suggested Harris had some sort of weapon.

15 and 16 year old kids man. I would freak the frick out if my car just got shot up and there was a dead kid in the car and I'm 36.
I can't imagine how I would have handled that situation in high school.

Why do ppl keep saying that?
You forget Dallas already took the brunt of the Alton rage from Baton Rouge, & you wish more on that city?
Comes off very selfish considering civilians were fleeing AR-15 rds being sniped from a roof top over something that didn't happen there , & there is no evidence in this current case out right now to warrant it. No like BR deserves a "riot" either, but to wish bad on a city who already took one for you recently is in poor taste

There almost never is. But that's never stopped certain "protesters" and their fringe elements from perpetrating violence and obstruction.

So lets just shoot up a car backing up.......

If you read the article you can deduce pretty quickly that he wasnt the person operating the vehicle.

We don't know which LEO department was involved. The articles say "police responded" and that the Sheriff's Dept. has taken over the investigation.
It also says toward Officers, more than one. We don't know how many cars, with dash cams, or how many officers had body cams.
Google maps shows a neighborhood in which people do not seem to park on the street. We don't know how cluttered the party made the street though.
There are apparently many witnesses that are being interviewed by investigators and attorneys for the family. The truth will come out.
