the problem will come when the over-zealous prosecutors overcharge him with capital murder and fail to get a conviction

i will wait til all the facts come out but to me it sounds like murder more than manslaughter...he will never get convicted of murder but will be found guilty of manslaughter.

I would think the prosecution would have both available to the jury

Police originally said the car had been backing toward officers in “an aggressive manner,” but later reversed their account, citing dashcam footage showing the car driving away from officers when Oliver began to fire with a rifle.

That's terrible. Gah.

If said he had no other option but to fire, but I'm not sure if that's even true.. as far the car coming towards him.. regardless, his option could be to get out the way?? Go to his vehicle and follow them?

Idk, but terrible because you never know what the situation inside the car even is..

It must have been pretty damning evidence. That being said, they really played up the racial angle and that sways juries these days.

Dude shot into a random car that was pulling away. Doesn't seem like the races mattered much at all.

Sounds terrible, but who why would you drive fast toward police? Still likely a better no shoot for the police, but I can also see why they may fear for their lives there.

Yea I usually stand by the police on these things but we really don't know if the kid had any idea two policemen had just walked up.
Sounds trigger happy

Not much information yet. There’s really only one conclusion I can draw: an officer shot at a vehicle because it was driving aggressively towards him even though he did not know who or what was in the car.

If he didnt mean to kill the kid, then why was he unloading his gun on a car. I just dont see the point of shooting a random car fleeing the scene of a crime. This has to be against their protocol.

Not going to call the cop a black-hating murderer, but I will call him a moron. Who just shoots at a random car that doesnt immediately threaten his life?

Dude, the dash cam footage showed that the car was not backing up. The police department even reversed their support for this officer. The cop is a lying POS. His buddies who lied for him should also be implicated in someway, be charged with something, and certainly lose their jobs

Oops, didn't realize this was a bump.

Right, call. Car wasn't a threat, shot into it multiple times.

He should probably be prosecuted for manslaughter- I mean the article reads like he heard a gunshot, saw a car pulling out and driving away, and decided to shoot at it. Criminally negligent behavior from someone supposed to be an officer of the law.

a regular citizen would probably get charged in this case. why should a cop be any different? if anything they should be held to a higher standard.
