After LSU baseball's 2 of 3 blowout losses to Kentucky, yes Kentucky, LSU's announcers looked feverishly for some silver lining, so they reminded everyone that LSU baseball had a similar number of losses last year in the SEC yet they finished out the year strong. There were similar expectations for LSU football after some tough early losses, but this time it didn't materialize for Miles, it may not for Mainieri either.

LSU's baseball coach, like LSU's football coach Miles, is consistently in the top 5 in recruiting, and similarly like Miles, can never seem to finish the year in the top 8 after winning the one national title. Consistently Top 5 recruiting, consistently not finishing among the top teams. It's called consistently grossly under-performing with the enormous talent that you recruit. Does this all sound eerily familiar?

Yes, very much so. With the new football and basketball hires, wouldn't it be the right time to cut bait with PM now?

Uhhh... LSU currently holds the longest active streak for national seeds, which is ranked 1-8.

Winning in Omaha is the standard the LSU head baseball coach is judged. Period.

Wasn't long after Les Miles blew the championship game with probably the greatest LSU team in history of the school he fell apart. Marineri is on same path after he could not win with a similar type team in 2013. He just stinks now

I agree that we are not a great team this season. But the yes Kentucky part gets me. Kentucky beat us in baseball. Should we shut the program down? Has Kentucky never beat anyone before? Aren't they leading the east right now?

You seem to ignore the fact Kentucky is ranked and is having a pretty good year. College Baseball and College Football are not the same.

I am not a huge Maneri fan but your argument to fire him isn't great.

Getting a national seed =/= Omaha performance/appearance

Nice try

5 straight national seeds leading to 2 trips to Omaha? That's pretty bad.

Nowhere in my post did I state to fire Mainieri now, just merely pointing to Miles and Mainieri's careers appearing similar and that they could both end the same way.

It's a damn strong argument.

I sm anxious to see how all the new coaches do. Wade will di somewhat better, Orgeron about the same. The "fire the coach" crowd always overrates our talent and underrates our opposition. During the gymnastics final a couple of posters talked about DD needing to go.

Both won a national championship in their 3rd season. A long time ago.

Both have the greatest single season in school history. (2011 football, 2013 baseball). However both seasons resulted in no championship.

Both had a lull and then a resurgence. Football from 2008-2011. Baseball from 2010-2013.

Both can't seem to win when it matters in the postseason.
