I really, really like George W. Bush. In fact, so much so that I almost feel bad for my negative feelings towards his presidency. Although I feel he was inept in that role, I admire and respect him deeply as a man and do not believe the way he's portrayed as a bumbling idiot is fair or accurate.

What are some of yours?

I admire George Bush for the sole reason that after 9/11, he kept America safe. I don't how he did it (Patriot Act), but damn it, he kept us safe for the most part.

I believe the growth in comedian political commentary has been an absolute disaster for the health of discourse in this country.

How can you engage in healthy debate with the other side when you view their ideology as not deserving of any respect, and should instead be treated as something to make a joke and laugh out of?

For this reason, it is by personal belief that young Americans, who get the majority of their news from these sources, will be among the most close minded generation to ever exist in this country.

I would eat Trump's pussy out if he pulled a Caitlyn Jenner. The man can do no wrong in my eyes. I'm gone full retard on Trump. Basically, because the libs got to pretend that Obama's shite didn't stink for 8 years, then I'm gonna do the same for Trump.

Oddly enough, I've gone the other direction with W. I used to admire him and thought he handled his Presidency well considering 9/11, Katrina, and a recession.

Since he left office and has become so friendly with the Clinton's and Obama's, I realized that he is just another cog in the establishment wheel.

And I'll never forgive him for the Patriot Act. I didn't like it then and I hate it even more now.

Edit: I do respect him for how he treats vets. I believe his sincerity in that regard.

(1) I'll probably get killed for this one, but here goes. I'm 100% pro-military, and I support different projects associated with helping the military. HOWEVER, it drives me up the wall when politicians, Democrats & GOP, always throw the obligatory "these people are America's best & brightest" into every speech. What? I commend them for what they are doing, and they are worthy of our praise, but they aren't America's best & brightest. Compare the typical employee at NASA to the typical military personnel. You think the military wins that comparison? No. Politicians can justifiably praise our military without having to lie about it.

(2) This is only somewhat related to politics, but I really don't give a flip about the Olympics. Some people act like America winning the most gold medals is of incredible importance. Of course I root for America, but why is it really that important? You know what I want to see? I want to wake up one morning and read where America's 8th graders scored higher on Math & Science than any other country. That would mean 100X more to me than winning 5 more gold medals than China.

I'm for universal healthcare in some form or another. As I get older, and come to know more and more good people who for one reason or another have lost insurance (oil field layoffs, working for small companies, etc.) or have been financially devastated by medical conditions that were beyond their control, coupled with discussions I've had with Canadian, British and Belgian coworkers, I've come to the conclusion that our current system is just nuts.

When you really look at who fights against it the hardest, its people who either have group insurance, are doctors or medical professionals (who know they'll make less money) or corporations that profit from healthcare (insurance companies, drug companies, etc). They've some how convinced a portion of the population that it's not in their best interest to have garunteed healthcare that won't break them financially. Why, it's just the lazy poors who want communist healthcare.

Other than this issue, I'm for all intents and purposes a straight ticket republican.

I'm a registered Republican, but I agree with some leftists things. I like the progression attitude in general, not as far as some have taken it, but being more creative, thoughtful, and innovative, I like.

As far as LGBQT.. I honestly dont care about the LG, let em get married, it doesnt affect me.
But the BQT is where I have a problem.
As far as B, choose one you weirdo.
As far as Q, What the frick does this mean? If "Queer" then its unessacary, you already got gay and Lesbo. If "questioning" then frick these fricking clowns. I thought you were born gay? no. frick Questioning ****s. Dafuq is that shite.
As far as T, frick the Trannys, you are born a man or a women, and hermaphidites choose. What the frick is this country comng to when I have to post serious comment about trannies. ETA: I dont want my kids growing up with more dudes with boobs, or chicks with dicks. No thanks, and frick off.

Climate change and using resouces more wisely.. I'm a little more left on this.

I don't really have a huge issue with "big local gov" programs/projects.
It's easier to hold dirty pols accountable and reverse course.

I think we're already seeing this. What's most ridiculous to me is that the ones who prance around screaming "bigot" and complaining about closed minded individuals are the most closed minded of them all - completely incapable of having a rational conversation, much less a debate, with someone who has opposing views. Very sad. Good post, HHtM.

Universal healthcare would only work....if everyone actually worked and contributed.

"The poor" are not the problem. "The lazy" are the problem.

The old adage is "you don't work...you don't eat." We abandoned that.

Now, we have "you don't work, you still eat...a lot, and others subsidize your food and health care."

F that.

I like all of the Bushes. They are a bit too Globalist for me, AND, I don't like the way that they never fought back against really awful Democrat attacks, but, I like them as good people.

My true political confession? I resent the historical image that almost all US citizens have for the United Kingdom. Most think that, since 1820 or so, the UK has been a benevolent, do-good nation that has always been a good friend to the USA.

My view is different in that I believe that the UK has been a good friend to the USA only when it has been in the best interests of the UK to be the USA's friend. When it's been in the best interests of the UK to lie to the USA and use US citizens as human shields on passenger ships during World War One, the UK did that.

Of course, for the last 100 years, the UK hasn't done anything REALLY ROTTEN to the USA, so, they have been pretty good friends for a long time now.

I voted for Perot in '92 fully aware that it was a de facto vote for Clinton.

Sometime between '92 and '96 I ran into this hippy chick from high school and at some point in a drunken conversation I told her that I not only vote Republican but I also make it a point to trick one Dem into not voting. Utter bullshite, just said it to tease the hippy chick and immediately forgot all about it. Fast forward to the '96 election and guess who hits me up to go to her grandfather's camp and trip shrooms and frick for a day or two. I agree and we have a good time, the election never really crossed my mind. The next day I'm sort of regretting not voting but she keeps telling me that if I was voting Dole and she was voting Clinton we would have cancelled each other out anyway. She repeats this six or eight times before I realize that its the verbatim conversation that we had in that bar years before and she had voted absentee before meeting me.
Don't care. Had sex.
