Is his career batting average of .396 ever going to be broken? Game on the line, winning run on 2nd, who do you want at the plate, Walker or Furniss, going by career stats? As asked last nite, which baseball player is next to have his jersey retired? Rantz went with Brad Cresse.

Im not about retiring jerseys 100% unless its a very rare case like Pete Maravich or a Shaq type of athlete. Not saying Todd Walker wasnt at that status, but I guess its been so long without all the fame that came with Shaq, it is tough to remember his accomplishments.

Brad Cresse was great but I don't know if he should be next. Im not who should be next up. That's a tough call.

He might be the next most deserving at this time, but if that is the case then I don't think we need to retire anyone else's jersey for a while.

Todd Walker was the best pure hitter I ever saw at LSU. His lowest batting average in three years of play was .393, so I think that's all that needs to be said. He was just about great at everything though.

Eddie Furniss was phenomenal too.

It should be someone with a Recognizable MLB name, like Ryan Theriot.

You want recruits and other teams to be reminded that a MLB guy they've heard of played here.

No it shouldn't. If that were the case then Eddie Furniss would not have his jersey retired. It should go on LSU accomplishments only.

And honestly, I do not think Cresse is deserving or the most deserving. I think Aaron Hill is more deserving than Cresse, but they really shouldn't retire anyone's jersey after Walker. At least not from the available former players.

With the Wally Pontiff Jr Classic every year remembering Wally i think they should go ahead and retire his #31. i am not sure but i dont think anyone has worn #31 since his passing so why not just retire it.

Cresse got that pat on the back because he won a NC, as well as being Player of the Year & winner of the Johnny Bench award. He was also more than a one season wonder. Is winning a NC that big of a criteria? Not getting into his creds, but does Wally get any votes? B.Larson for one season, Fontenot for one incredible HR, LeMahieu, Jason Williams?

Maybe retiring Wally's jersey is the right thing to do, but will it set a precedent? What will be the criteria used for retiring LSU ballplayers posthumously? Might as well and retire Alex Box's jersey number, the stadium bears his name. And he paid the ultimate sacrifice for his duties to his country.

Not to hijack the thread, but Rantz did a pretty damn good Skip Bertman impression during the game

Jason Williams, to be honest.

Teammate of both of those guys, may have been the greatest clutch hitter in LSU history.
