Wife and I are considering there. We have family in MS that we want to be closer too and it appears to be a better option. I am familiar with the coast, but just not Ocean Springs.

Any thoughts from the wizards of the OT. We are leaning there due to the school rankings, crime stats etc...

Also if anyone knows of any neighborhoods with tons of kids that that would be awesome to know too.

TIA

One of the nicer places on the MS gulf coast. Personally, I would choose Bay St. Louis or Pass Christian.

Nice, decent schools, but overpriced.

Agree with the poster who said Pass Christian.

Ocean Springs is probably the best place on the coast, IMO.

However, do check out the schools since OS is in Jackson County, which has no casino tax revenue. Whereas the other coastal counties, Harrison and Hancock Counties do take in casino tax revenue, thus are SUPPOSED to have better schools.

I don't know anything about Ocean Springs. We have lived in Timber Ridge in Pass Christian since 2015. I grew up in Ascension Parish and so did my kids.

I love the Pass as a retiree but I think my kids would have been bored growing up here.

That said, Pass High School is a high ranked school in Miss.

Also, we absolutely love living here! Slow pace of life (no traffic) and fishing in our back yard. My husband says we're living the dream.

Well, on second thought, my son would have not been bored here outside of school. He would have been fishing all the time.

I am also assuming since Pass high school is so much smaller than the school my kids attended that they wouldn't have as wide a variety of AP and elective classes. I could be wrong about that. I also don't know if the elementary and middle schools have gifted classes. My kids were in gifted classes.

It's got a cool little downtown area with some good restaurants.

It's a good place for young family.

OS seems cool enough, we live in the area, BSL, and end up playing in soccer tournaments around there. The last club my boy played has an east team over there and you can usually get a great feel for the class of a place by the youth sports. That said, it's probably the best set of parents we play and that includes nearly every damn town in southern MS and LA.

Honestly, I think I would really enjoy living on the MS gulf coast. I travel down that way for work periodically and never fail to enjoy myself. only bad part would be that you occasionally have to deal with a hurricane...which is the case on any of the coastal states. I don't know much about schools in that area, but OS is a damn beautiful town. also close to some additional entertainment in the Biloxi area (baseball team, etc.)

I grew up there. If you're going to live in MS, you can't do much better.

Ocean Springs is one of the best and nicest schools on the coast. St. Martin is also a great school in Ocean Springs. Both schools have brand new buildings due to Katrina but OS has one of the best buildings for a high school I have ever seen.

Why not Daphne or Fairhope, Alabama? I think the Eastern Shore has decent public schools.
