Coaching tonight was suspect

With the tying run on base (Beau Jordan), PM let him run for himself when he had Brennan Breaux on the bench. Other fast runners were also available. When KRob had another miserable AB and hit a chopper to the drawn in SS, he threw out BJ at the plate. Breaux would have easily been safe and the game would have been tied. I know that Jordan was the DH, but geez Mainieri, you have to give the team the best chance to win the game in regulation. And tonight, as it often does, poor coaching decisions came back to bite us and prevent us from having a chance to win.
At least he made Papierski (.230 avg) SAC bunt with the tying run on 1st. Normally he would have "hit away". With a team that hits this poorly against good pitching, we need to play lots of small ball, all the time.
Same ole stuff from PM. Not going to change.

Coaching *every night is suspect

Offense was suspect so was the pitching. We simply can't let Tulane, NO, and Mcneese beat us period.

I admit I'm starting to look a bit askance at CPM. I wonder if he's capable of winning another championship. He's about as arrogant and stubborn with his constant hit-and-runs and running us out of innings as Les Miles was with his Stone Age offense.

Paul isn't winning a NC ever again. He's the Les Miles of college baseball. He got the final contract he wanted to set up his retirement and the cruise control will continue. Alleva doesn't hold anyone accountable so why should he try?
More dead money out there.

Too comfortable.....complacent.......smug........poor coaching
Sounds like what got our old football coach fired....
When they start this....well we know what those road signs signal...

You cant live in the past. Lets face it Mainieri has been a mediocre coach the last few years.

cpm's problem is motivation. whether people on want to admit it or not, he knows more baseball than anyone on here. After all, these are young kids, not professionals. Motivation is a HUGE part of what they need at this age.
the team follows the leader, and this leader simply cannot get a team going for teams they are "supposed" to beat. Or, they have followed his lead in post season in playing tight. Anyone recall the game (in omaha i believe) that showed cpm pacing and chewing his nails, while the other coach relaxed and ate an apple in the dugout?
Motivation is what made Skip the best. Not his baseball knowledge. It is also what sunk Smoke. Smoke actually handled most of the x's and o's for Skip, but could not get 18-20 yr olds fired up to play.

After face planting in the way to 3rd....

Might favorite was the time when Tulane walked two batters on 8 straight balls and he had the next guy square to bunt on the first pitch rather than try to work the count to see if pitcher still struggles with control

Deichmann and Watson are the only two with a consistently principled approach at the plate. Cole succeeds because he's just good but it's clear there's no real effort to teach the team how to work a count.

Kind of a tough thing to do when you're asleep in the dugout during games.

Typical - calls to "fire the coach" from people who couldn't coach their way out of a paper bag.

The only coaching decision last night that had me scratching my head without the benefit of using hindsight was not pinch running for Beau Jordan as soon as he got on base leading off in the 8th inning. It was unlikely he would come to bat again so why have one of the slowest runners on the team continue to run the bases in that situation?
That was a definite brain cramp on the coaches' part.

This poster is officially out of the paper bag...

And they both played Joe Alleva like a fiddle to get extensions and raises. And guess who gets stuck holding the bag when you are giving away "other peoples money"?

When your coach is soft ..... you team will be soft ............. not able to win the close ones ever, just dont have the go down and get another gear ability. wim at all cost mentality is aqbsent, always an excuse yr after year.

You are dead on. Best post I have read on why they lose mid week games and play tight in big games. Starts at the top. Not real difficult to figure out my this team is so frustrating. Cannizzaro was the emotional heartbeat of the team.
