One of my best friends worked for mamout for a long time. He's got some incredible pictures of gigantic shite getting moved.

Our company has 12 sets of transporters. We bring in Mammoet from time to time to help us move shite.

We had a worm that worked for us that damn near fricked up one of their power packs for the strand jacks. Jack arse opened the cap to the hydraulic tank and started filling it with diesel. It was 1 of 3 units in the world. This was while they were pulling a production platform that was halfway onto a barge. Luckily they caught it before it got messed up.

If I wanted A road job I'd start there, they do some cool stuff and get paid pretty decent.

Lake Charles is going to be a large metro in 30 years given all of the industrial growth there now.

I read that Entergy has to build a gas power plant in Westlake to handle the demand all of these new industrial consumers will place on the system.

American Press Article

quote:

Officials with Entergy Louisiana are wanting to build an $872 million power plant in Westlake to meet the growing regional demand for energy and to replace existing infrastructure that has aged over the years.

Phillip May, president/CEO of Entergy Louisiana, told the American Press editorial board on Monday the proposed 994-megawatt plant could result in customer savings ranging from $1.3 billion to $2 billion over its 30-year lifespan. The project, known as the Lake Charles Power Station, would cost Entergy customers an average of $3.68 per month, with a projected monthly fuel savings of $1.68 to $1.85 during the first year of operation.

I was working on controls at a cryogenic plant in North Louisiana when they brought in a 180 ft fractionation tower (separating ISO butane from normal butane. The had to maneuver around a pretty short S curve on a 2 lane road right before the plant and then had to go around a few corners in the plant that looked impossible. They used separate truck beds attached to the tower to essentially make the tower structure the trailer (like a giant tanker). The trucks were independently steerable via a control pendant at ached by a cable, to maneuver the curves and such. When traveling down the highway they were locked in straight ahead position and just acted like basic truck axles.

Pretty fascinating stuff. The one in this video was almost twice as long, probably more than trace as heavy.

I detoured off I-10 to take a look a few months ago and that place is impressive. Good for SWLA.

The sad part is that is Mammoets 3rd or 4th largest crane, and it's not even the biggest one in town.

The have the PTC-140 across the street at Phillips 66.

Good question.
Last month the spokesman for the Axiall expansion was commenting about the modules ariving to the site by barge. He stated that this method of transportation kept the equipment off the highways in Calcasieu Parish. Too bad that the modules are make in Korea as opposed to the USA.

No clue, but there's a place in Houston that does a lot of vessels like this.

Well, there is probably a pretty good reason for that.

Funny story from one of my past jobs. The plant I was at was waiting on an already late vessel to ship out of Houston. Late due to our own stupidity and engineering bullshite, but whatever. Large crane on site and the project on hold waiting for the shipment.

When the vessel got on the interstate in Houston the damn thing fell off the truck and was damaged. Co-workers were sending news story videos and press clippings for three days about that shite clogging up traffic. Luckily it was only a repair of a few days, but it still sucked.

Those specialty crane guys seem to have pretty awesome jobs.

Yes. With a bunch of lookouts. The transporters act together as one unit. You have to get them lined up to within a 1/2" or so.
