He's been a coach since 1990 he has 3 NCAA appearances. You want a guy who's going to make the tourney once every 9 years? Then he's doing this at middle tenn do you know his record as a power 5 coach? It's 16-42. How is that different that Johnny Jones? Have you even ever heard of this guy before this year?

Oh, okay, I "want" him to be hired when I referred to him as "far from my first choice."
We can and should do much better, but to portray this guy as a sky is falling disaster as some seem to do here is a stretch.
How is he different from Johnny Jones? Again, they are THIRTY ONE AND FOUR and in the tournament. Seems pretty different to me. Ideal candidate? Nope. JJ again? Nope.

Yeah man, you're right, everybody always wins every game they're favored, so they really shouldn't even bother playing the games

Took in over a decade to beat a 5 seed and Mich State. We don't want to wait!

I don't get the local "knock" on Davis? He's surpassed anything we've seen in the last 10 years. Instant upgrade and yet people would bitch

We could do worse, but we should IMHO be able to do better.

Kermit is not in my top 5 choices, but the guy is an excellent coach. If he is the fall back pick, we are in good shape.
You can't judge these coaches in the one-bid leagues by NCAA appearances only. They can have a great season, and lose in their conference tournament and not make the NCAA.
He also built that program, so it is more accurate to judge him by the last five or six seasons there. Especially when you are comparing him to other coaches at similar schools who only have a 3-5 year track record.
Kermit is 153-52 (66%) over the last 6 seasons and 85-21 in conference (75%). Made the post season 5 times (3 NCAA, 1 NIT, 1 CIT). The one time they didn't make the tournament, MTSU won the conference at 13-3 and lost in the conference tournament. The previous 9 years there, he finished second or third in the conference 8 times. He has never had a losing record there. Over the last two seasons MTSU is 5-0 against the SEC and Big 10.
The only argument against him, really, is that he failed as a young coach at Texas A&M almost 30 years ago and committed some NCAA violations.
He was a head coach at Idaho at age 28 and went to two straight NCAA tournaments.
Also, a perceived negative is that he has been at MTSU so long, no one must want him and he is 57.
Jim Larranaga at Miami got his first P5 job at 61 and is doing well.
I would like Prohm, Chris Collins, Wojo, Brey (if that's real), even Joe Dooley at FGCU is a great coach with a Kansas background.
But, if we end up with Kermit I will not be disappointed.

This is false.
He has been a head coach for 19 total seasons. He has made the NCAA tournament 5 times (2 at Idaho, 3 at MTSU). Except for one year at A&M, he has only been a head coach in one-bid leagues. MTSU won the conference in 2014, but did not get a bid after losing in the conference tournament.

Do not want. I want a young coach with fire in his belly that has zero ties to LSU.

I like the idea of hiring Kermit, he'll do well.

I really think Kermit is nothing more than a fall back. At least I hope that's what he is. However, I would take him over half the coaches currently in the SEC.

So you want to hire a coach based on OUR past performance? WTF is wrong with you and those like you?

he's the purest definition of a stale hire. honestly I wouldn't be devastated if he were the guy but much younger. 57-year-old with 3 tournament appearances?
he'd have to bring in the dirtiest of bagmen to make this interesting
kermit really is the prototypical lazy, gift-wrapped hire Alleva is cool with that doesn't have a large buyout. I'm fully expecting this
I agree 100%
He's not a guy like Ben Howland or Rick Barnes who at least have some significant big program accomplishments. He's also not a guy like Mike White or Bryce Drew who are young guy who seem to have the potential for great things.
The only great thing you can say about Davis is that he is a better coach than Johnny Jones. That's not a great accomplishment, nor is it anything that excites the fanbase.

At least get your facts right. He's been to the NCAA tournament 5 times.
And Rick Barnes may have been the laziest, stalest hire I've ever seen in college basketball.
