Eat as much vegimite as you can. That stuff is amazing and for some reason I can't find it in the states.

There are also a bunch of wineries east of Perth, and a zoo where you can walk right up to, and pet, 'roos, wallabies, koalas.

G'day mate. I can help you with your slang before your "walkabout" "Down Under"(that's Australia to you and me). Do you have a BMX bike?

Go to Little Creatures brewery. Great place. Good food. Get the kangaroo on stick.

The zoo is nice. Great city. Fremantle area is lots of fun. There is a beer bar there, forget the name. It was really cool kinda like something outta New Orleans. Had good beers and you could get flights. Dont go expecting awesome food in perth. And everything is expensive!!

From where I lived in Scarborough in March 2015, I could see the water. I walked to the beach all the time, but maybe it has changed since then.

Amazing beer.

--No matter how hard you look, you probably won't be able to find a Foster's beer. Here's a fun story: Australians don't drink it. Good average beers are: Coopers, Toohey's, and XXXX(that's how they spell "beer" in Queensland).

--Go to a sporting event and eat a meat pie. (Cricket, Rugby, Aussie Football).

--Eat your Kangaroo rare.

--While in Melbourne, tour the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG--It's the "Yankee Stadium" of Australia).

--The Old Melbourne Gaol is fascinating.

--Get all of your souvenirs at the Victoria market.

--A good, casual restaurant in Melbourne is one called "Clay Pots". There are two locations. The seafood is AMAZING. Eat a "bay bug".

--Watch out for drop bears. Australia's silent killer.

I'm going back in December. I would love to live there.

When you get to Australia and the passport control officer asks you if you've ever been convicted of a felony just tell him, "No, but I thought that was no longer a requirement to get into Australia."

I did that and he just laughed and stamped my passport after telling his colleague next to him what I said.

Australia is an overpriced, overrated, dump. Only good thing here is diving and people speak English

Said like someone who has either never been or spent a week in Sydney working all day and going to bars all night and eating at KFC and Hungry Jacks.

Nope I'm here right now (Brisbane) and will be for another 3 months. I love diving here and it's nice that everyone speaks english(for the most part) but its so damn expensive. It's not a horrible place, I would love to vacation here as that would be a blast, but living here for nearly 2 months now and I'm over the novelty and I would not recommend living here full time, unless you're making a ton of money, it's so disconnected from the rest of the world that it's a very isolating place from the rest of the world.

Now since this is the travel board, my apologies for giving people a bad impression (was wayyy to drunk and venting about striking out with this Aussie girl when i posted that). This is a great place for an extended vacation- lots of stuff to do and see, their weather is great beach weather, fantastic diving/beaches, really good food with tons of options. The good side of being soooo far away from the rest of the western world is the time difference is great for disconnecting from home.

KFC was disappointing compared to its European counterparts. Haven't been to hungry jacks yet because I'm a Macca's man, when I have to get fast food.

I agree with all this, especially the Claypots suggestion. Would also recommend getting in a drive out the Great Ocean Road while you're there...
