I think this comes automatically with priority mail. Maybe not $450.00 worth, but something.

It looks like I'll get something back ... but at this point, it's not about getting a portion of my money back. I just want the package delivered.

Check with your credit card. I'm not sure how they handle returns but don't miss CC companies offer insurance on purchases

You never know what goes on at some of those shipping locations...it could have just rolled off a conveyor somewhere and will be discovered in a couple of weeks.

My grandma recently received a 30 year old letter from an aunt (who had been dead for 15 years) that had apparently been lost in the mail.

Moral of the story...wait at least 30 more years before making a big deal about the shipment.

Not to rub salt, but...

Christmas eve 2015, I had a priority envelope sent overnight from my sister (a gift for my daughter) it didn't show up, and tracking said it left my local PO and was out for delivery.

Christmas night, I updated tracking, notta.

So, the next business day, I update tracking (still notta) and call USPS to file a claim- My sister DID have ins.-and the person I was directed to says, "Sir, that package was delivered on 12/24/15 @ 1:32pm. I'm sorry, but USPS cannot file claims on delivered parcels."

Short of calling her an Fing liar, I update tracking again...and boom. Delivery confirmed by Delorean, I guess: They got me.

That package NEVER was heard from again, and I am helpless.

Good luck.

Package appears "lost." I've submitted an online investigation through USPS last Thursday

I've lost two packages worth over $400 in the last 2 years thru USPS. Both happened to be shipped thru FedEx and their SmartPost method where they actually ship it to the nearest post office and USPS is responsible for delivery.

USPS sucks!

I got lucky in both cases in that the company I was purchasing from has excellent customer service and replaced the items and sent by FedEx overnight to me.

Same exact thing happened to me. They claim it was delivered and Sorry, you have no claim. I talked with my letter carrier who I see all the time and she was on vacation that week. So I inquired who was on the route that day it was delivered and they had no record. You are fricked even if the packaged never arrived.

Now, when I'm ordering even off Amazon, I will not order it if it's delivered by USPS. Not worth the chance or headache.

Although I am aware of CC benefits (price match, insurance, etc.), I am fairly certain I paid with my debit card.

Another mistake here for me.

How can this be determined prior to ordering? Where am I not looking?

You are SOL.

When do you not purchase insurance for UPS or Fed Ex, an automatic value of $100 is established.

The Feds have an Act... maybe the Carmen Act, which protects interstate carriers from tort liability.

They do have a minimum you are insured. $100?

Why not insure the whole value?

You would pay double to insure and send via fed ex, no?

I never had a package lost by usps or fed ex or ups but i get the insurance no matter what. too much stress otherwise. Insure, then no worries. I consider myself comfortably wealthy. Part of it is using money to make my life calm and balanced.
My friend says some people just want "drama".

USPS has a LONG history of losing packages.

Back in 1987 I was approaching graduation from LaTech so my parents sent a sapphire/diamond ring they had made for me to check out (instead of a Class Ring, a ring with class). I went to the campus USPO and mailed it back certified, insured, blah blah blah.

6 months after graduation, I picked up Mom and we went to the bank with the USPS insurance check. Yeah it was like 9-11 months later from when I mailed. Well, guess what was in the mailbox when we got back from the bank? Yep, the ring.

If the original form of payment was a credit card, dispute the charge with them explaining what happened.

Go in person to a local PO and discuss it.

I bought a rifle scope and when they told me they were using USPS I knew something would happen. Sure enough the neighbor down the street got it and luckily gave it to me. Now my address is on my house ....
