If POSSIBLE a discussion about Trump.

I wonder if any part of him regrets running? He won! Now he is 70. With the next 4 to 8 years of his life regimented for him. If I were as wealthy as him and 70 years old I think I'd be like Vito Corleone "I like to drink wine now?" You know appreciating things and enjoying my spoils of success?
Perhaps that is just me not knowing the guy AT ALL? To spend some golden years doing this job? Walk away at 78 (possibly) years old and straight to the years where by and large a persons health starts to fail and limits your ability to enjoy the very life you've built for yourself?
He could be slowly kicking back and opening golf courses as he lets his kids take over his businesses and properties?
I assume the power of the office he won has to be intoxicating? Maybe he doesn't regret it? I could just see him being prepped for a speech on a random Wednesday a year or so from now. And him thinking "shite, I could be in Ireland opening a golf course right now?"
Again, just a discussion. IF POSSIBLE on here. Without descending into a frick TRUMP vs frick YOU argument... Can this happen?

Trump will live healthily into his 90s and he'll work as long as he can

At 70 and the way the job ages you... you better be sure.

He's also a guy who needs to be loved and now half the country will hate you no matter what you do.

frick you.
Just kidding.
Yeah, I think he's done this to himself for a couple of reasons. Lefties or righties will latch on to one or the other.
1) I think he does care about the country and has seen what inept leadership has done to it financially. Lefties can post that he's inept all day. Go for it.
2) I think he made the final decision to run when the leftist comedian went after him hard at the WH correspondents dinner.
3) I think he won because people are tired of politicians and leftie comedian types (Hollywood).
It was a big frick you to the far left, Hillary and her chameleon type pols and Trump haters that he wanted to prove wrong.
For better or worse, he said he was going to do it and he did. There's something admirable about that.
ETA: Didn't take long for a douche liberal to do exactly what you hoped against.

Trumps already lived past the usually lifetime of a obese human. He's a heart attacking waiting to happen.

Trump is an enigma, but I think he really is doing because he believes the country was going down a sand hole.

I think if he can accomplish most of his goals in 4 years...if it were me, I'd try to get Pence and Rand Paul (VP) in for the 2020 election and GTFO.

All bias aside, Trump is wired differently than most folks. I totally agree with OP, in the sense that if I was 70 and wealthy like him, I would be retired & doing whatever I wanted. That being said, I don't think he thinks like that. By his own admission, he derives pleasure from life by working and attaining success. Just like his father, Fred Trump, I think Donald will work well into his final days, and be happy about that as well.

Well, he's been doing that for 30-40 years already. Maybe he wanted another challenge?
His Mom lived to be 100 or something like that. Not sure about his Dad. But assuming he mostly inherited the "good genes" regarding longevity, he could be around for awhile. His eating & sleeping habits seem subpar, though. I hope that doesn't catch up to him.
I also pray that the Secret Service is keeping an eye on the CIA.

I don't think he gives a rip about the everyday minutiae of being President. I think he covets the respect the office has, the attention it gets, the power it holds, but then every President does so he's not different there.
I think ultimately he sees the opportunity to shape the country, and to an extent the world, into what he envisions best benefits himself, his family, and his friends.
I don't think he regrets it at all. I do think he was as surprised as many people were that he actually won.

If you're looking for motivation, look at the Trump brand, and at the legacy for his children. Maybe he feels comfortable working rather than retiring, everyone's different.

He said the same thing 30 years ago that he says today. We are being ripped off as a country and it all needs changed. America first.
I think he genuinely thinks he can change the canned political garbage of both parties in DC.

If Congress wont pay for Mexican wall, he will go sulk in his tower.

I don't think he regrets it for a lot of the reasons posted here. I do think that he didn't get into it at the beginning really thinking he would win. I admire the way he ran with in once the momentum kicked in.

I am assuming that the ages of most posters are in their 20's and 30's. You will realize, as you get older, that not working, and retirement, is highly over-rated, especially if you enjoy your work.
If you own your own business (like Trump) and you become financially comfortable, working is actually playing.

I think he probably has regrets. Everyone in the private sector, and especially in real estate ownership and development has been trained to hate government. It has to be an incredibly difficult transition to deal with the slow moving bureaucracy. When he wants to go hang out at one of his favorite restaurants and get a prime piece of meat well done, and douse it with ketchup, he can't do it without constantly being monitored and criticized.
He did it becuase he has ego. That is true of almost everyone who runs for elective office. I think he also did it becuase he thought he could make a difference.
But yes, back to one of your points. I don't think it is unlikely that he doesn't look back and think, screw this, Atlas shrugged.

Zach does not gamble. Never have. But if I did, I'd bet 100 bucks that Trump decides not to run in 4 years. He'll support Pence for the job and enjoy golfing while still in his 70s. I've seen 80 year old golfers and they use a driver on par 3s.

The leftist will not believe it but it is because Trump has had an inside look at what is really going on inside the US Gov't ever since a president name Ronald left office.
He knows how corrupt they are and more importantly he knows most (not some) politicians either do not have the best interest of the USA at heart or have been blackmailed. This includes Judges, where you aren't even in consideration for that position unless they have blackmail baggage on you.
So why did he run... because although his time on earth is relatively short he LOVES HIS KIDS. He sees an opportunity to Drain the Swamp and literally Make America Great Again.
