Why would they build sidewalks on a busy road and then not put any crosswalks? Especially in an area that kids use frequently.

Becoming a serious problem? It has been a serious problems for years.

This information was in 2011, which shows 52% of fatal crashes involved cell phones.

Sidewalks to keep pedestrians off of the road. I'd guess it's impossible to have a cross walk every where people may be walking. Tragically, some mistakes in life you are only allowed to make once.

guy i work with just came in and his camper is the one in the photo on wafb.com. It happened right in front of his house. He said his wife heard screeching tires and her and their son went outside and saw the kid down in front their house. Horrible situation

I know Robert too and he is a great guy. I can't imagine how terrible this must be. My first thought when I heard was of Bryce playing on my back porch once as a toddler. Life is precious and fleeting. Very grateful to go home and hug my son.

Heartbreaking no matter how it happened. I can't imagine sending my child off to school only to be called minutes later that he is dead.

Wonder if the truck drove up on the sidewalk on driver's side and hit the boy?

Some of those roads don't have intersections for long ways. The speed limits on most of the roads in Denham, Baton Rouge and other areas around are just too high.

No the truck didn't drive on the sidewalk. Traffic heading in the west direction was at a stop due to cars turning on a street ahead. Traffic heading east bound was traveling at "normal" speed limits. The kid apparently walked or ran between the cars stopped and failed to notice or look at the oncoming traffic in the east bound lane. Driver had absolutely no way of seeing this kid dart in front of him. Bad accident.

Speed limit had nothing to do with this tragic accident.

I agree

The speed limit was changed to 35 sometime this afternoon
I noticed the sign & looked for a 2nd one to make sure I saw it correctly

Hopefully they will put in some crosswalks

The first thing my dad taught me about driving was if there are kids in the area, go slow. They can dart out without looking and if you hit one, your fault or not, your life is ruined.

Not blaming driver or kid, crazy shite just happens sometimes

I haven't read the whole thread

This exposes the defendant to punitive damages in palm beach county in civil cases, just like as if they were driving drunk. I like that rule

Do you always jump to conclusions? Not everyone plays with their phones all the time.
