That's not even opinion. That is undisputed.
Their record may have been a little inflated by playing in C-USA. I just looked up that season in conference. This is what I saw.
1. One team with single-digit losses that season (Cincinnati)
2. Denny Crum's final tournament team, but they still weren't that good
3. Perry Clark's final year at Tulane. They won the division Cincinnati wasn't in with an 8-8 record and didn't even make the tournament
4. One of the last DePaul teams that was decent
5. The year before Tom Crean went to Marquette
6. The Clyde Drexler era at U of H. Johnny Jones-esque FAIL
7. Speaking of, Johnny Jones was the coach at Memphis after the Tic Price scandal
8. St. Louis won the conference tournament with a below-.500 conference record and barely-over-.500 regular season record

Since we're reminiscing on the 2008 tourney, it's crazy now in retrospect that Steph Curry got shut down by Brandon fricking Rush on a last second shot. Guarding hum one-on-one no less.

That is in no way funny IMO. Rush fell on a screen and it wasn't a legit one on one but they definitely wanted to get curry away from him in that situation.
Rush is one of the best wing defenders I've ever seen in college tbh and he would have been a really good NBA player if he had knees

I don't remember that particular play, but Davidson put up quite a fight that day.

Wrong year. That was the 1998-1999 season that they beat Duke in Alaska. Still a hell of a win. That was Duke's only regular season loss.

What if matk aguirre didnt fall on sammy watkins with one second to go in win over ucla in elite 8.
Depaul competes with ind state bird in semis.
Watkins was great defender and dr j lite on the break. His jumper from corner made depaul.
Lots of what ifs in life.

Dermar Johnson was freakishly good. A shame what happened to him.

God that was such a badass team

Great topic to analyze. What was that Cincy starting 5?

I remember that tourney. Wally Szerbiak (sic) got tons of hype as well

There is no guarantee Cincy wins. The tourney is a great spectacle but a horrible way to crown a champion

Ahh man that hits home, funny you bring that up because here back home it STILL is talked about regularly. It hurt bad, I am a huge UD fan, but I still love all the local teams minus The suckeyes.
We all firmly believe that they would have won it all that year.
As for THuggins, welp, I don't think that would have saved his arse from being fired, the stuck up AD bitch had it out for him regardless of his bball teams.

The Bearcats were going to steamroll through that tournament in UNLV-like fashion.

No. that's hyperbole.
Fewer team over the past 16 years would have been a bigger favorite.

One Final Four in both places. Big East/Big 12 competition is miles tougher than C-USA in that time frame. Cincinnati WAS the big dog at that time. Now Huggins is in a conference with Kansas.

Side note - Cincy lost to 8-seed SLU that day, who won four games in four days to win the C-USA Tournament and anot NCAA bid.

It was a weaker field, but I wouldn't go that far.
With the injury, the two best teams in that field were Michigan State and Iowa State. That game felt like the title game.
