I was in middle school when a woman had a heart attack at wheel during strawberry festival. She ran over guy in dad's friends front yard among others. I can still see the woman on hood shoving the baby carriage out away from car. It was terrible, prayers to those involved.

I doubt all 12 did, the lesser injured went elsewhere to not overwhelm the resources at one facility, even at UMC.
WDSU just broke in.
21 people taken to 10 hospitals. 5 to trauma centers. No life threatening injuries.

Just got back out of the chaos. The truck went just behind me and my family as it grazed a black suv on the right then he hit the accelerator hard. He jumped forward and hit the white sedan as he attempted to go around It to the left. This was just into the Orleans intersection. The sedan went to the right into the pole on the right of the intersection onto the neutral ground of Orleans, striking 2 or 3 people. The truck veered hard to the left into the center square of neutral ground of Carrollton and Orleans. It was packed. The crowd was lifting the vehicle off of victims. Blood everywhere. Reports say 12 critical up to 25 reported injured. The crowd panicked and people were screaming and grabbing kids and running. My question is why allow traffic on Carrollton at all. The mayor has been talking all week about dump trucks and busses being used to prevent vehicles from being able to get a direct shot at crowds. There were trucks and a bus there but they were not protecting the crowd. Traffic never stopped flowing behind the crowd on the side of Carrollton opposite the parade route.

If it's just some drunk piece of shite
I wonder if this 18 year old kid is going to get the same treatment Mitch Landrue's son got after he hit and ran numerous vehicles along broadway

My wife and I were literally discussing tonight if a trip down to NOLA would be fun/appropriate for our young kiddos.
Then I see this a few mins later. Hope everyone's ok.

Well I've been on the parade route every night since Wednesday including up until about 30 min ago and me, my wife and 2 kids are still alive and un injured. As well as about 999,890 other people.

That was in reference to a terrorist attack on bourbon not a drunk on the route.

It's sad that something like this had to happen in order for them to open their eyes and really prioritize safety.

We do uptown parades and it's pretty family friendly. Don't go down to Endymion, never been quite as kid friendly with the amount of drunks who've been out drinking all day. And because we are tired from the day's parades. Anyway, prayers for everyone injured or was a witness to this terrible event.

You are right most commentary has been about the French quarter but there was a dump truck blocking traffic from crossing Carrollton on Orleans going toward City Park but the crowd between Orleans and Canal were exposed to traffic. That's all I meant to say.

And you've probably been lurking for 29 minutes waiting to jump on the first person who insinuated anything negative about New Orleans or Mardi Gras

Prayers sent to all involved
If the "no life threatening injuries" part is true that is amazing
Driver of the truck is fricked, Nola will throw the book at him bc it happened at Mardi Gras
