I have no problem admitting this. In 8th grade I played this girl 1v1. She was the best basketball player in our grade, regardless of sex. I played AAU, but stopped junior year since I couldnt make varsity(we won state at highest level). She killed me, and she killed every guy she played. 2 of the guys she played in hs 1v1 played high level D2, she quit basketball in college.
We played the girls team during practice one day just for fun. I really don't know why the coaches decided to do it.
Anyway, we beat the girls team 80-something to 0. They didn't score. We pressed the whole time and they only made it past half court maybe 5 times. They only got 1 shot off the whole game. And we didn't even play full-length quarters.
It was a complete annihilation.

an elite AAU team around 7th-8th grade could almost assuredly win the women's title in CBB

One of my friends (starter at 5A playoff team in La.) practiced with the LSU women's team in the 90s. He said they were much more physical than he expected and on a somewhat similar level.
I recall Elaine Powell and Marie Ferdinand from LSU playing at the Rec Center in the 90s often. I think they both played professionally for a bit (WNBA?). I was also a starter on a 5A La. playoff team and felt they were of similar ability.
While I agree that upper level HS teams would beat UConn, I think they are probably a little better than most weekend warriors give them credit for.

Also to add, Powell and Ferdinand would usually start out playing on the 'A' court with guys like Master P and the more athletic (i.e. everyone can dunk) guys and then move over to the 'B' court with a lot of guys that played HS but only had a 1-2 guys that played above the rim.
Usually, Powell and Ferdinand would hold their own on both courts. Not necessarily the best but usually better than average.

this is purely anecdotal
I've played rec basketball against several major college women's starters. 2 of them were over 6 feet. One of them played in the NCAA tourney and she scored 2 points all game against me and I blocked like 4 of her shots.(this was like 2 months ago and she played in college a couple years ago) I'm 6'2 and decent.
I think a solid mens HS team destroys UConn

Any decent men's varsity from a high division class (like 5 or 6A in Texas) would destroy them. I'm not entirely sure they'd ever score.

They'd run you off the floor in less than 5 minutes.

My HS coach had a daughter who was an All-American on Baylor's 2005 national title team. She played pickup with us in our HS gym during the Summer and was completely helpless. Couldn't even get a shot off. I'm just under 6' and she was 6'4", she couldn't elevate enough to get a shot off on players my size without it getting tipped. In the post it was like watching someone back down a concrete wall, no movement at all.
They just aren't athletic or strong enough

Mississippi State has the second ranked WBB team in the country right now.
They got beat in scrimmages by a bunch of guys who play pick up in the gym. The tallest of which was 6'7.
I was just about to post this.
MSU is #2 in the nation. Their scrimmage team is a bunch of guys that played high school basketball and weren't elite at all. They usually split their games. A decent high school team that has practiced and played together for a couple months and runs an offense would destroy them.
I'll give UConn some credit and say it would take a state championship caliber high school team, but a D3 college men's team would beat them.
However, I think Geno is a great coach and could have success in the men's college game.
Edited: Here's a LINK to a video of Tennessee's women practicing against guys. The video is edited to make the Lady Vols look good, but every time the camera pans over the scoreboard, the game is close.

the top 15-20 teams each in 3A, 4A, and 5A in Louisiana would beat Uconn

i used to play pickup games at the PMAC dungeon and we played with some LSU WBB players (when they were a top 5 team) and i could keep up with them. opened my eyes entirely. they weren't physical enough to contain all 6-0, 215 lbs of my SFPostgame
and they were dirty as frick

Am I the only one on this board that was an LSU student at the same time that Simone Augustus would come play basketball at the rec with all guys multiple times a week? Sure if she was open she could knock down a jump shot but she would regularly get owned by athletic guys that played football in high school.
Also, click the link below to see a 15u AAU team. This team would be favored by at least 40 points vs Uconn. The poster saying a high school all star team would be needed to beat UCONN is delusional LINK

Any good high school men's team could beat UCONN women. The vast difference is athletic ability comes through in bball more than most other sports
Posted on 2/22/17 at 1:00 pm to Pilot Tiger
if you have a MODERATELY athletic and coordinated guy who is like 6-3 or so he'd absolutely dominate the game entirely

I think the real question is, what would it take from a men's basketball team to beat the WNBA's champions? Obviously they are better than UConn, because it's the best of the best. Or even East or West All Stars for WNBA. Do they even have all star teams?

that's why i went all the way down to a 7-8 grade AAU team
i still think an elite one would win. that's about age when those kids start to play above the rim and build muscle at that point the girls have no shot at all
