Looks like it's time for God Emperor to play hard ball

European leaders have pushed back at Donald Trump’s ultimatum that they increase defence spending or risk America scaling back its commitment to Transatlantic protection.
Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, said her country would not accelerate existing, long-term plans to ramp up the military budget by 2024 despite a demand by the US this week that countries increase spending by the end of the year.
The president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, also said countries must not cave in to US demands.

well they can cave to US demands or to Russian demands, but they're going to have to make that choice pretty soon.

She'll change her tune quickly if we begin shutting down bases in Germany and pulling those troops completely out of the country (instead of just re-assigning them to other bases).
America is a far better friend and ally to Germany than Russia has been. Just ask the former East Germans.

So basically, they refuse to live up to their commitment, and it's insulting that we asked them to do what they agreed to, yet we must continue our commitment to keep them safe anyway?

Damn ... if the Third Reich can be obliterated in roughly 4 years ... surely Germany can get their shite together in faster than 7 years.

Translation.....
we know we can't keep paying for all this free shite while paying more of our fair share for military and NATO expenses and thus we need more from big daddy uncle sam to be paying for our shite.

There should be a monthly update from the WH regarding the percentage of European nations that are meeting their obligation.
US citizens may want to use that list in deciding vacations for the summer. Not a protest by the right. Just US citizens that are tired of being the World Police paid for by our taxes.

They're crying about it like the socialists they are because they want the USA to keep paying for their shite.
Trump is right about NATO. It's a good organization but it needs to be a team effort, not a mooching effort.

Merkel...?
Don't worry, that traitor will come around.
She's still in mourning of her dream partner in world domination.

Of course not. She'll just kick the can down the road for some one else to handle that problem. Germany will have to find where to get the money from since those leftists have used handouts to secure votes and will most likely have to either scale back welfare spending and/or increase taxes.
Leftists sure do like "shared burden" until they actually have to endure it.

So if NATO countries spend more, can the US decrease spending?
