TAF now giving 1 point per $1,000 of "academic gifts"

I'm not familiar with TAF, but does this mean that donations to the LSU Foundation are worth the same points as donations directly to TAF?
If so, what incentive is there to donate directly to TAF? If I had money lying around, I'd rather give it to to LSU, I think.

Beginning in 2017 priority point credit for philanthropic donations to the LSU Alumni Association and the LSU Foundation is being increased from ¼ point per $1,000 donated, to one point per $1,000 donated. TAF is also working with the LSU Health Sciences Center Foundation in New Orleans and the LSU Health Sciences Foundation in Shreveport to provide priority point credit for donations made to these LSU-affiliated organizations.

Honestly I'm kind of shocked this wasn't the donation model years ago

I don't think academic donations result in the bonus points given for donating to TAF.

You get 3.2 points a year for $100 to TAF.
Edit: not sure why it's not as simple as 1 point for every $1. Wouldn't that make the most sense?

1 large donation could net someone good seats. The system is supposed to be more even

Yes. With the exception of bonus points for TAF giving (e.g. 3 points for a $100 gift to TAF).

Incentive may be the wrong way to look at it. But people will still want to support athletic programs.
This is all part of a larger effort to streamline LSU into the "One LSU" model.

"One LSU" model.

Since TAF sends money to the academic side, but the academic side doesn't send any money to the athletic side, I wonder what incentive there is to donate to the academic side, except if you want it going to a specific college or program.

Eh. In this area, it makes sense. No need to have the fundraising units competing against each other.

The athletic department "sends" money to the academic side. Not TAF.

I think this is a great idea since LSU is in the bottom of the SEC for academic donations for alumni and the foundation.

Whoever is in charge of LSU fundraising should be canned. They are abysmal at alumni contact from what I can tell.

Honestly thats probably not good enough. Academic side at LSU is suffering a lot.

You don't want to screw the every fan.
My biggest beef is there isn't something like 10pts for alumni. Michigan started doing this.

So it's the "athletic program" that sends the money to the academic side. What do you think helps the athletic program generate a surplus to be able to send the money to the academic side?
quote:
LSU's athletic department announced Monday that it'll transfer $10 million to the university -- about $3 million more than its required payment.
LSU’s main campus receives a guaranteed $7.2 million from its athletics program each year, according to the athletics funds transfer policy approved by the Board of Supervisors in 2012. In a news release, the athletic department said a surplus this year allowed for an additional $2.85 million to be given to the university.
Facing budgets cuts, LSU President F. King Alexander said in mid-March that the school's administration was exploring ways to increase that annual $7.2 million transfer.
“There is no athletic event without the university,” Alexander said at the time.
In the past five fiscal years, the department said it has transferred an average of $8.7 million each year ($43.5 million overall).
So it's the "athletic program" that sends the money to the academic side. What do you think helps the athletic program generate a surplus to be able to send the money to the academic side?

Unfortunately they didn't start the collegiate club until after I graduated, but that's a cheap way to get started while in college. I agree that alumni should get a few bonus points.

this should have been done a long time ago...that being said, the antics of Charlie Roberts didn't help with alumni giving...

Got lucky. Wife and I both did collegiate club while enrolled then they started the recent grad program. Got married and combined all those points....
4 years after graduation and we have 6 together in 412 and will get 2 more this season.
