I'm not familiar with TAF, but does this mean that donations to the LSU Foundation are worth the same points as donations directly to TAF?

If so, what incentive is there to donate directly to TAF? If I had money lying around, I'd rather give it to to LSU, I think.

Beginning in 2017 priority point credit for philanthropic donations to the LSU Alumni Association and the LSU Foundation is being increased from ¼ point per $1,000 donated, to one point per $1,000 donated. TAF is also working with the LSU Health Sciences Center Foundation in New Orleans and the LSU Health Sciences Foundation in Shreveport to provide priority point credit for donations made to these LSU-affiliated organizations.

This song gets me so hyped - Ty Parr - Champions

quote:

We are the winners, watch us glimmer.
Like the sunset of champions!
We're in control, body and soul,

We push ourselves to the maximum!
The Champion(s), The Champion(s)!
We are the Champions!

If you were spammed then I'm guessing you fit one of those descriptions.

"Computer Science & Engineering".

I don't think they have any demographic info in my profile. Except maybe my ASL, which I probably filled out as Female born in 1900.

Asian bros have it the worst, probably.
I feel like it's illegal too. AFAIK you're not supposed to ask those sorts of things during the hiring process.

So, no over privileged minority Asians?

God, no. Especially for engineering or CS positions.

Over-representation is a problem!

U.S. Department of State is hiring

Apparently, race and sexual preference are "skills" that the US Dept of State is hiring for!

Critical skills needed within the agency:

- Minority students/African American
- First Generation (Student Support Services)
- Diverse Sexual Orientations
- Computer Science & Engineering
- Foreign Languages
- Political Science

Thanks, bro.

But looking at the Radeon HD 5450, it says it's PCIe 2.1 x16. My slot, I think, is a PCIe "1.0". Would there be a performance hit since the gpu has to be backwards compatible?

Also, do Radeon cards play well with Linux these days? Last time I paid attention (a few years ago), it seemed like nvidia was way ahead.

And are you also recommending that I go with OpenCL over CUDA?

Just ordered an older desktop. Now I need to add a video card, the cheapest possible.

This will be a Linux machine, prolly Ubuntu 64-bit. Only intended uses are (a) to watch movies on an HDMI-only TV, and (b) to play around with CUDA... No games, and no serious number crunching.

So far the cheapest thing I could find is a $25 nvidia Geforce 405 ( LINK)... but my search parameters were too narrow. And I'm not even sure if this card will fit in my machine.

I'm especially confused by the slot situation... bc the store website and the manufacturer site don't say exactly the same thing. Plus, even if I get that down, I'm not sure how to query newegg to include older cards that are still compatible.

Slot

Store website says, verbatim:

* 1 PCI1 PCI Express x16

BUT, the manufacturer site says, verbatim:

* One half-length, full-height, PCI Express x16
* One half-length, full-height, PCI Express x1
* Two full-length, full-height, 32-bit PCI 2.3 (5v)

Other specs

Form... Tower 4x5 ("small form factor")
Chipset...Intel Q45 and Intel ICH10DO
Motherboard... ???
CPU... Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3GHz
RAM... 3 GB of DDR3 SDRAM
Power... 280 Watt
thanks, all. Will look into the suggestions.

Inspirons suck.

Go with Latitude series, or XPS.

check ebay too, if you're really trying to save money.
Not sure if a vps is what I'm looking for, but can anyone recommend a hosting service that's basically a Ubuntu/Debian virtual machine? I need something that allows root or sudo access and lets me install and do whatever on the machine, preferably via ssh. Also need sftp or scp access.

Flexibility is paramount. Gonna use it for testing, and for deployment if I get there, of random websites/apps I'm working on. I've been using a spare computer on my LAN, but I want to graduate from that.

TIA.
I use one of those $30 square ones from walmarks, and put it near my window. I get:

3x PBS channels (HD, and two different regular channels)
3x ABC channels (HD, regular with different programming, and weather)
3x CBS channels (same as above)
3x NBC channels (same as above)
3x FOX channels (same as above)
1x Local/LSU channel (not in HD)
1x random channel with trashy programming
1x Jesus channel (Jimmy Swaggart I think)

So that's 8 different networks, or 18 if you count the network variations as distinct.
what is this? what does the dp:// prefix do? how do I see what's in it?

screenshot:

that's right up my alley. I'm gonna pull the trigger.

thanks for help!

Economist, WSJ, Forbes, Fortune

(I need to pick one so that my miles don't expire). Pls help me make the right choice?

My exposure to all of them is limited, but I'm leaning towards Economist, bc it seems the most "enlightening" and it doesn't have too much newspapery stuff that you can get pretty much anywhere for free.

Am I doing this right? TIA.
IIRC, one decision is whether to put it in your name (and transfer later) or in your child's name, which has implications on child's ability to get grants/scholarships later on, among other things.

Google 529 in my name vs child's name.

ETA: I'm not having kids any time soon, and I only researched this topic briefly. But this is the main thing I remember from my 30 minutes of research.
Thanks. I'll read through it. I keep all records of everything, so the tax stuff will just be a matter of putting in the work.

Yeah, this show's lost its balance. Everything's gone limp except the procedural/spygames stuff, which is still enough to keep me watching.

And shouldn't the US President be in the mix by now?
