Does the fire department invoice for putting out a fire?

It'd be nice to know our taxpayer dollars are enough to not have to,
but like the fire that burned for several hours at a business in Prairieville last week, that was a lot resources expended. If so, I would think insurance would cover it.
Just curious. Who knows?

Fire departments don't fund themselves

Property taxes and calendar fundraisers.

Pancakes, Chili and red lights

No. There is no invoice. Which is why your votes when our taxes come on ballot are very very appreciated

A long long time ago there was (like 19th century) You had to pay a fire tax, there were people who didn't pay and the firemen wouldn't put them out. Then you also had competing fire districts.

They didn't charge me when they put out a fire at my house. Truth be told, I was kind of naive about things like that and frazzled from the fire and straight up asked them when I should expect a bill. They just laughed and told me to have a better day and left. Good people.

Nice to know.
Will keep that in mind next time a tax comes up concerning such.

My father had a large fire at his business ten years ago. Never got a bill. Thank God for firefighters.

Long time ago, no that still happens- 2011

SOUTH FULTON, Tenn. -- Firefighters stood by and watched a Tennessee house burn to the ground earlier this week because the homeowners didn't pay the annual subscription fee for fire service. "You could look out my mom's trailer and see the trucks sitting at a distance," Vicky Bell, the homeowner, said.
It's the second time in two years firefighters in the area have watched a house burn because of unpaid fees. Last year, Gene Cranick of Obion County and his family lost all of their possessions in a house fire, along with three dogs and a cat, because the fire fee wasn't paid.
And Yes people can get billed (invoiced) from the fire department if they live outside the city limits.
$20,000 bill for house fire

You can get billed for false alarms.

Some rural and volunteer fire dept. located outside of a city municipality will submit a service charge to the insurance company. Most Home Owners insurance policies have coverage limited to a specified amount. Usually $500 or $1000.

In the scheme of things, I could see $500-1000 being reasonable, especially if insurance would cover it.
Either way, I appreciate firemen.
I was really just curious.

I guess that money went up in smoke

Back around 2010, some a-hole in South Fulton, TN, let a guy's house burn to the ground because the resident didn't pay that year. South Fulton is a sister city to Fulton, KY, and is divided by the state line. Fulton is your usual small town shithole but whatever charms and graces it has ends in South Fulton. When I was a junior in HS, we had a football playoff game up there. As our buses are rolling through a residential neighborhood near the school, we saw a sign in a yard that read

Do you know any firemen? I do,and every one of those SOBS are crazy firebugs. You could probably get them to pay you for coming to put out your fire.

Baton Rouge is funded by a property tax.
A lot of rural volunteer departments will send an invoice. I had a truck burn on the Sunshine bridge years ago and got 2 invoices from 2 separate volunteer departments.
