OK, I'll expand.

I think Lebron, especially with the TT deal, is really short sighted. When he campaigned for the deal he did not consider the long term affects it would have. I'm just using this deal as an example. He wanted a guy that he likes personally to get paid and he did; he didn't factor in what the move would do to the franchise as a whole. That's my beef with Lebron as a "GM," in my opinion he does not look at the long term health, sustainability, and adaptability of the franchise. It's a "I like this player and I want my way" view. The fact of the matter is the cap and these contracts are complex as to how they affect each other, and Lebron does not understand the nuances and it's biting the Cavs in arse right now.

Of course Lebron is the main reason, but without Irving they dont win. The same cant be said of Thompson

I think the cavs overpaid for TT and he generally kinda sucks, however, he balled out in the finals. His defense and rebounding were a huge contribution to their series victory.

That does not justify a silly max deal, IMO.

I'm not even sure you can say that. And it's not about how good he is. It's about how close the series was and CLE having no one else who could provide what he provided on their team. His play was absolutely crucial in that series.

Lebron is one of the best GMs in the league. Let him do what he wants.

The problem is Reauxl, he can't do what he wants. Cleveland is strapped money wise because they've done everything he's asked for up until the Korver deal

It was pretty well known around the league that korver had really fallen off a cliff. Can't defend anymore and doesn't have the agility /quickness to come off of screens to get his shot that way. He can stand in a corner and hit at a serviceable clip but hey your channing frye James jones kinda guy can do that.

Tristan Thompson is a crucial part of this team, especially in the playoffs.

Lol which is exactly what's happening. I mean unless they deal Kyrie, Love, or TT for equal money, this is the roster. LeBron indirectly saying "we dont have the players to compete with the Warriors in a 7 game series" Missing the fact that the Warriors took advantage of a loophole and a soft superstar willing to join them. There's nothing Gilbert can do about that.

Irving is the new Ray Allen now.

what an awful thing to bring up. The "without Ray Allen's 3" narrative was dumb, but Kyrie was absolutely instrumental in the finals especially games 3-7.

Korver has been shooting a lot of his shots off of screens, idiot. That's one of the main problems, they are trying to use him how ATL was using him when they don't need to. Not to mention, the bench lineup has been atrocious w/wo Korver. The Korver trade wasn't a bad one, and just like the rest of the sheep you are engulfed in the yearly mid-season theatrics. This whole thing is stupid and will be an afterthought once Cavs are in the finals again. So dumb

He has spent them into this situation and needs to take responsibility for it instead of complaining. If he wants to be a GM he needs to figure out ways to compete while successfully managing the cap instead of constantly begging for more money to spend.

OP didn't link the story but does Windhorst conveniently leave out the fact that they will likely be hit with a repeater tax next year? That's a shite ton more money that Gilbert will have to spend on top of what they are currently spending.

Fair point, as long as you're giving him the same credit for being the "GM" and winning a title last season.

Well, if they're going against him, he's not actually the GM then, is he?

I don't understand what move Cleveland could possibly make to substantially improve their team to Lebron's liking. They are maxed out with Irving, Love, Smith, TT etc.

They would never get equal value for Love and trading him for Melo the ballstopper would be incredibly dumb.

*Note: I am not an LBJ hater. I just do not see any flexibility on Cleveland's payroll nor any way to make a move for a significant piece.

Saw a crazy star last night on r/NBA, it was something like the Cavs are the only team in the NBA that has 2 players averaging more than 2 assists a game. Warriors and Spurs both have 6.

I'm not reading this whole thread so don't know if anyone brought it up but I believe the Cavs have an open roster spot. I assume the reason they aren't using it is to save money. That's what pissed off Lebron in miami (mike Miller amnesty). I assume he and Gilbert had an agreement before he came back on this sort of thing and Lebron feels like Gilbert isn't holding up his end.

Yes he was, but there was plenty of people on the MSB after game 7 who were acting like Kyrie was the series MVP and bailed out LeBron. Obviously that could not be further from the truth.

They do have 14 guys on the roster, and with Birdman done for the year, and JR out for at least 2 more months, that's 12 available guys on the roster.
