Some people I know in New England commute 90 minutes one way in the morning.

My company's North American headquarters is in Mass, have coworkers that commute from New Hampshire & Rhode Island

I did the mandeville to Nola drive every day from 95 to 05
now I drive Hammond to BR every day since 05
you get used to it IF your job is fulfilling and you love where you live

I could have stayed in Nola and avoided the commute but I wanted land
I could live in BR but BR sucks

everybody has different motives and goals

Depends on where you work too. I'm looking at a company in Metarie, if I make it in I'll be looking in Mandeville.

Grew up on the Northshore. From Mandeville to Metarie, is 30 minutes door to door. Not all bad for not having to live on the Southshore.

Plus 4-10s, nough said.

It makes a big difference what time you have to be at work or if there is flexibility.

Living in Madisonville and driving to work in Metairie for 8 or 9a takes me about 1 hr and 15 min.

I used to live in Mandeville and had to be at work at 7a. That only took 35-40 min!

Makes a big difference at the end of the day, calculating trips both ways. 2 1/2 hrs (3 hrs with fog) vs 1 hr 15ish.

I did it for one year. One day while stuck on the bridge b/c of a wreck, I calculated the time I was spending commuting back and forth...more than 500 hours a year...more than two weeks a year commuting. I didn't want to spend my time like that. I moved back to NOLA.

Used to commute an easy hour one way in Houston and that if there were no accidents. The bad just out weighed the good. It made me an alcoholic as I couldn't make it an afternoon without picking up a couple of tall boys for the drive home and then I was too tired to do anything once I got home.

Live less than a mile from where I work now, and am a much better person all around. It's unbelievable how that commute affected my life. I don't understand how some people do it and really don't understand why.

When I lived in Houston I worked near 249 & the Beltway, my boss commuted from Willis. He would leave his house at 5 AM to beat the traffic and it still took an hour. He wouldn't leave the office till after 5:30, brutal

If you take a job on the Southshore for the Federal Government, get yourself a sweet ride like this and live on the Lakefront in Mandeville. You'll have so many justifiable days off because the Causeway wouldn't let you on the bridge. You're a protected glass man.

Wife commutes 3 days a week from Lake Ramsey (north of Covington) to Metairie and it's exactly an hour door to door but she leaves at 5am and gets home at 8pm so there isn't much traffic

3 guys at our NOLA office live on the NS and commute, none of them have a problem with it but they all live close to the bridge

I don't mind being in a vehicle listening to music as long as it's moving. I'd rather 45 minutes of interstate rather than 20 minutes of bumper to bumper

I've been commuting from Covington to Nola the last couple months and I dread it. I have really early mornings though, and occasionally work fairly late.

I'd never move to the North shore though. Maybe when I'm married and have kids but that place depresses me.

You really want to get up an hour earlier every day just to sit in a car? And drive an hour home everyday? What a waste of life to me. Instead of getting home at 6:30 you now get home at 7:30. Instead of leaving home at 6am you now leave at 5am.

Unless you literally live on your office doorstep, you're not adding an hour to your commute. I've been doing it since 2007. Been carpooling since 2011 which makes it easier, but it still didn't bother me before. I leave around 5:10AM, get to the office in the CBD before 6, leave at 4 and get home in about 50 minutes.

I make the drive everyday and i dont mind it at all. In the morning I pop on a podcast and when it's over I'm at work. The pros outweigh the negatives unless your a major hipster and need to be around like minded people.

If there's a wreck on Causeway or weather / fog restrictions, get ready for a fun drive. If I ever moved to northshore while still having to commute to southshore, I'd go to Slidell to at least have alternate routes available if one bridge had issues

This makes me wonder. For all the talk of a Nola to Baton Rouge train, wouldn't a north shore to Nola train make more sense.

I guess the city wouldn't support making it easier for their tax base to move out
