WTF is this. She raised the child the first 3 years with her husband knowing it was your child.
He didn't know. She was trying to save her marriage and never told him.

Again, I'll ask, is he on the birth cert

This actually happened to a friend of mine, he knocked up some random chick in his dad's RV at the Daytona 500 and she spent almost 4 years trying to track him down.
"Dustin. Listen. My name is Roy D. Mercer. Are you the feller what courted my precious daughter Cheyenne in the RV lot at the 2010 Daytona 500?"

What's the role of the former "dad"? Did he just bail altogether once he learned the kid was not his biological, or is he still in the picture? Just curious how he reacted
He completely bailed out. I can't possibly judge him for doing anything. I'm not in his shoes.

OP, how was Maury Povich? Is he as nice in person as he appears on the show? Sorry about the kid btw.

And you're the child support sucker.

You came to a board full of college students and mid to late 20 somethings with drinking and constant relationship problems and no kids.
Half of these responses should give you an idea that this isn't exactly the place for this type of advice.

I would imagine that dude is hurt and resentful

How does the kid react to you? Hardest part I think would be getting him to bond with you considering you're new to his life. Once you get past that part, boys are easy. All you have to do is spend time with him. Take him to the zoo, aquarium, fishing, movies, play backyard sports, walk around the mall with him and let him be your wingman....and be prepared to have a helper for every household activity you do since little boys that age want to do everything with their dad.
As shitty as it was for how his mom deceived you, still don't talk badly about the mom in front of him.

Man, no offense but this is some pure D bullshite she is selling you.
She didn't tell him because she was selfish. Every action of a cheater is selfishness, and I know. I've seen how their minds work.
She thought it was to her advantage to stay with the husband and you obviously didn't offer enough of a jump to justify trying to rope you in.
Now he finally got tired of her cheating and you are a convenient boat to jump ship into.
Take care of your kid, but never trust her.

It doesn't matter at this point. The birth certificate and social security card have to be changed. The court's ruling already allows she and I to take care of that. That's the next step. In the judgement of the court, though, his last name is now my last name.

I remember everything. She was an ex girlfriend of mine who was legally separated from her husband for 4 months when we started seeing each other again. She broke it off with me after she found out she was pregnant and reconciled with her husband. She didn't tell anyone, so I went about my way not knowing. Now, they are divorced, and she calls me out of nowhere to let me know about him. Anyways, paternity test done, court system taken care of, just looking for a little parenting advice for someone who has never parented a child of any age.

Second she lost that paycheck, she had to quickly jump to next income source
She will have the income for years and will find a better pocket book ASAP. When that time comes, she will want all the money and all the child

Mom sounds like a pos. That is bogey one in raising this kid.

I've no advice but at least you didn't have to deal with newborn bullshite? Glass half full
Seriously though, as someone who had a parent gone for roughly half my life, just fricking be there for things and love him. Don't bail and don't be a lazy frickin parent.
